Jacob Goes Off Grid Day 200 Part 1

in #homesteading7 years ago

This is a video from Day 200 of going off-grid. I went 'off grid' six hundred and seventy-eight days ago and it has been quite the journey since I got dropped off at this old fallow farm and built (continue to build) all my own infrastructure. I have been video documenting the entire process and have just recently begun publicly sharing some of the videos. I have been sharing the videos privately since I started the entire process which I call Jacob Goes Off Grid In The Woods.

'Day 1' is the morning after I arrived at this little place in the mountains in the 'dead of winter' on January thirteenth of two thousand and seventeen with my dogs, my wits, minimal gear and very little hard currency to work with. Slowly I have done my best to breathe life into a very old farm and give it all my best, 'learning as I go', and documenting the process as best I can. It has been quite the journey so far. @jacobpeacock

In this video I show how I fixed the solar shower bag that previously broke and explain how I did it so that I could hang it up again instead of it just laying on the roof of the shack.

I show where I cut down the vegetation on the terraces across from the shack and around the 'lawn ornament' tractor and explain again that the reason I keep cutting everything down is to help control the tick population.

I show where I moved the canopy tent and all the materials under it out of the road and to a new place. I explain how I went through all the material and removed all the fasteners that were in it. I explain how I covered all the material with some roofing metal and tarps to protect the material from the rain.

I talk about catching a black snake that was living in the original material pile under the canopy and relocating it into the new material pile.

I show where I stored the good windows under the camper shell and explain how I blocked the camper shell up off the ground.

I talk about weed-eating around the area where I placed the canopy tent and along the road that leads beyond the spring that got contaminated by folks putting a shooting range at it's head.

As always this is just a summary of the video's content and not meant to explain everything that I cover in the video.

200 days and going strong..!!
I never had great luck with those shower bags either..
(:

As of today @annephilbrick it is 678 days and still going strong! :) Yeah those bags are crap really. They work okay for a hand washing station but are prone to algae buildup.

@jacobpeacock
