Day 954 (Daily Post)

in #writing6 years ago

Day 954. Once again I am up early and whoa is it foggy and cloudy outside after that insanely long night of loud thunder, frequent lightning and extreme downpour of rain that just never seemed to stop or even let up.

Eventually I was able to drift off but it was much later in the evening than when I had wanted to go to bed because I was trying to wait for a break In the storm to let the dogs out one last time before I fell asleep. When a break in the rain finally did come the lighting and thunder persisted and three of my dogs would start to go out the door then it would either lightning or thunder and they would turn back around with this 'fuck that' look and eventually I just gave up trying to make them go potty one last time and we all crawled into bed and drifted off to sleep rather rapidly.

Things are pretty mucky outside today and I sure am glad that I have the mass majority of outdoor stuff finished and now mostly just have stuff to dismantle and pack down indoors remaining to do. All of which is going to be pretty challenging because there is more rain on the way so my idea of stacking everything outside whilst dismantling stuff inside is not going to work. Last night during the storm I started trying to come up with a 'plan b' in that regard and I think that I have a good one but it is going to require creating a bit of a cluster fuck inside and dismantling my shelving and workspace/office area first which is not all that big of a deal but that area is the cornerstone of my morning and evening writing routine which I was trying to keep intact until the very end because the discomfort (and inconvenience) of doing without it will drastically impact my routine and my productivity. At this point though I just don't see any other way to do what needs to be done here in the time that I have remaining to get prepared to move in a few more days.

My mind invariably keeps 'jumping tracks' from the pack-down here to the initial setup at the new place and although I have some good storage for my personal items and more weather sensitive gear there is not quite enough storage to meet all my needs for other stuff (like my two full-size mattresses and box springs and my indoor building materials) that need to remain free of moisture. I am just going to have to get incredibly creative and figure something out especially if this sort of weather is going to persist over the coming week.

Obviously things are going to be a bit wonky at first and undoubtedly I will be a bit frustrated living in a tent with the dogs and all my stuff being packed away in bulky containers and basically crammed into a space too small to really fit it all and since I failed to pack things into 'kits' I will surely find myself repeatedly telling myself 'just fucking breathe, take your time and be patient because eventually you will have things setup in a functional way.'

All that stuff aside I am looking forward to things winding down here and putting my energies into the new place because even if I don't stay there long-term my contributions to the place will assuredly be appreciated for years to come. My friends have done a wonderful job developing their little homestead over the last three years (since they began it) and having visited the place twice now it is apparent to me the love and intentionality that they have put into the place that has made it what it is. Doing what I do with caretaking and land stewardship I have a rather well trained eye for noticing what others have put into a place and I absolutely love seeing what I have seen thus far and it brings me vast comfort knowing that our lives will all mesh rather well together and their homestead will flourish even more than it already is.

The place is actually so nice that I feel kind of bad that I am about to clutter up parts of it with piles of stuff but like the saying goes 'you have to break some eggs if you want to make an omelette.' For my part I am going to do my best to put the stuff I bring into use as rapidly as I can because 'stuff in the yard' is one thing and 'functioning stuff in the yard' is an entirely different thing. It will assuredly take a good bit of time, calories and work to get to that 'functional' point but in my heart of hearts I think it will be well worth the endeavor.

Anyway I better wrap this up and get to creating some discomfort for myself here by dismantling my living space and continue packing everything down and piling it all wherever/however I can inside this little building. Hopefully I can do it without making the scenario unbearable. I will have to just start a countdown timer for my remaining time here so that I can occasionally look at it and go 'I just have X amount of hours left to endure this and then my entire life will change for the better!'

I hope that everyone is doing well, has a pleasant day/night and I will undoubtedly do the same.

This is my fundraiser to help me with moving expenses.
