When Did Honour (honor) Die?

in #life9 years ago (edited)

Just came back from hanging out with a few mates, had the good old BBQ and all, typical type of Sunday arvo, so to say, just on the other side of the planet!

As usual, the topics of discussion went from all sorts of things, from sports, to life in general and then to "Why it is the way it is?"

I usually hate finger pointing, and that is what most people in these former eastern block countries do, but today was kind of interesting, the topics concerning the current lack of morals and overall negativity in these parts of Europe where people work for very low wages in comparison to the former Western Block European Countries, were more so analytical and not the typical "conspiracy theory" lets point the finger at anyone except for the person who they look at in the mornings when shaving!

What the conclusion was, kind of shocked me, the guys concluded that there is no honour any more, the kids don't know what honour means.

When I thought about their words, they were right.

Kids have no role models as far as honour goes.

Corrupt politicians, corrupt doctors, corrupt teachers, corrupt police, corrupt just about everyone, where did the concept of honour vanish?

Why did it vanish?

One of the guys went on to ask a question that was in my opinion excellent:

"When can we expect humanity to finally get beyond the concepts of good and bad?"

Meaning, that only good be present and that bad be a thing of the past.

As per the Good Book, after the second coming of Christ the savior, only good shall exist on this earth.

I popped the question, "Could it be that we are living in those times? When on this earth are both JC and the evil one who shall deliberately deceive people into going along the path of evil, along the path of greed, along the path of everything that leads to dishonour and shameless shame?"

I don't know what to think, no one actually had the right answers, nor were there wrong answers, but these are definitely very disturbing times we live in. Very challenging for all those among us who are sincerely trying to be good people.

I am still sticking to my guns, in that I shall not judge, instead I shall try to understand and now that I see people accepting the fact that they can not point the finger at others for their own reality and fate and that they have started looking for what has been lost in the path to this reality and almost inevitable fate, I can finally say that their sense of responsibility is finally kicking in.

Never to late to start fixing things up! Never too late.

So, no matter what the future may hold, no matter how long it may take to patch things up, there could be light at the end of this dark and misty tunnel these people are wandering in for the past two, three decades.

I'm glad that some of these people still remember what the word Honour means, that is isn't just a lost term of time long past.

Honour or as the short version is written "Honor", something that should be at the core of humanity, because without it, there is only left that, which is dishonorable and that is what brings us to this shameful reality that too many people on this earth have to face.

I'm off to sleep this one through, might be smarter in the morning, might not, at least I saw and experienced what I have not seen or heard in this part of the world in over two decades.... "responsibility and a logical analytical approach to facing reality".

Honor is not dead, but it is mortally wounded. Take a trip to Japan, which is one of the last major cultures where honor still has some place amongst the mainstream.

Honor is dying because our culture and social/economic systems punishes it. You can make a quick buck by lying, corruption is so prevalent that we even expect it and condone it when our leaders are so obviously acting in self-interest. Having honor, even loyalty in this society is a handicap and it is not rewarded.

In the past honor has also been associated with chivalry. Now THAT is a concept that is pretty much dead in todays PC world.

The honor dies with jealousy on the female

I agree. Honor has died little by little with each generation. Each generation before it passing down their bad influence to their children. In fact, I would go even further and say that honor, integrity, respect and loyalty are all things that are fading from our society. Maybe a future like in Mad Max is not so unrealistic after all.
