On every 3rd July of every year, UN has introduced a day of fighting against the highly use of plastics in the world. It was due to highly increase of the plastic pollution. It can be taken as a dream to thick of traveling or living a life with out plastics. According the UN Environmental Program, it is said that more than 8 million tons of plastic products are dropped in the world's water body masses.
It is estimated that if it is not totally controlled, by 2050 ocean waters will be containing more plastic weights than fish.
This is the reason why UN has introduced this campaign day of fighting and reducing the use of plastics.

PLASTICS IN GENERAL

Plastic is a combination of chemical materials composed of various elements such as Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen,Chlorine and Sulfur.

Plastics are generally called Polymers because they are produced by the conversion of the natural products by the synthesis from primary chemicals from oil, natural gas or coal.

Plastics have got high molecular weight and are widely composed of carbon molecules.

THE PRODUCTION OF PLASTICS.

Plastics are produced when the oil (Petrol) is highly heated and the upper dense molecules called Naphta are collected at the top base.
This Naphta is mixed with some water to produce carbon molecules and are again heated to collect together and form molecules.

TYPES OF PLASTICS BASING ON THE PRODUCTION PROCESSES.

  • THERMOSET.

This kind of plastic (Polymer) solidifies irreversibly when heated or cured. When these polymers are once heated, they never return to their softness. examples of such common plastics are rubber tires, mattresses, furniture, adhesive glues, plywood, electrical appliances etc.

Car tires are termed as thermoset polymers.

  • THERMOPLASTIC.

These polymers have molecules that hold together by weak secondary bonding forces that soften when exposed to heat. These are the commonly used in packaging and other activities.

PLASTICS IN OUR DAILY LIFE.

My home water dispenser and the bottle are made of plastics.

It is as if plastics has become a colony to the human beings because it is used from where we sleep, foods we eat in packaging them and also in the clothes we put on in our daily lives.

No one in the world can equip to be in contact of plastics. The cups, plates,we use at our homes are made of plastics, office and school equipment, health and hospital objects, and plastics have gone deeper that even the laptop and mobile phone I have used making this article is covered by plastics.

But excitedly plastics were developed and firstly manufactured in the mid of 20th Century but it has spread at a big range.
In Africa there are some areas that have the plastic wastes on a large scale to build a city.
Not only on land, Plastics are now found in the water masses that even in Pacific ocean plastics have collected together to make a hill that is bigger than France and Belgium when combined together.

DANGERS OF PLASTICS.

Plastics are very harmful to life. When plastic wastes are in the soil, they take hundreds of years to decompose which make waters fail to penetrate in the soil and Agriculture will be hindered.
Once Plastics are heated they emit hazardous gases in the atmosphere which hinder rainfall and may lead to some respiratory diseases and cancers.

Plastics wastes that are dropped in the water masses are and are eaten by fish and kill them. The population of fish is now reducing that there even some species of fish that no longer existing due to carbon ions they have eaten in plastics and kill them.

Plastics chemicals disfigure genitals.
plastics increase the childhood asthma.
Plastic chemicals kill female libido.
Plastics has infiltrated foods.
Plastics destroy hormanal balance.

SOLUTIONS TO THE USE OF PLASTICS.

Scientists are making a deep research to find the solutions on the highly use of plastics in our daily lives.
The only solutions that has now reached is the manufacture of plastics from plants known as Bio plastics.
Plants have got hard cores that have carbon molecules that produce plastics that is not pollutant to the biological life.
Such plants that are now producing bio plastics today are maize, and wheat.

MEASURES TAKEN IN RWANDA TO REDUCE THE USE OF PLASTICS.

Rwanda also has got the plastic wastes and pollution. In the last month of June, the Rwanda Environmental Management Authority REMA introduced a campaign of reducing the use of plastic materials in the public areas and offices. This followed the 2003 law abolishing the use of polythen papers and bags on the land of Rwanda.

Here also there is a campaign of reducing some plastic materials such as bottles, and introduce other forms of packaging some products that decompose shortly such as paper bags and sacks.

Industries have to play a big part in the introduction of other packaging materials that are free or zero plastics.
Let's come up together to fight against plastic pollution and live a zero plastic lives.

Imagine that even the laptop and the headphones I was using while making this article is a plastic cover.

I am @jackarphillip blogging on the better standards of life and I hope that this article will be interesting to you.
