Have you ever been riding down the road, saw something that was obviously being thrown out that you liked and went back to get it? Yesterday that happened to me. I was on the way for a short stop at the market and to Popeyes for a Shrimp Po'Boy that I was craving for supper. The road I live on is a very long one, stretching from my local small town, out to the country side. On the way into town, I caught a glimpse of what looked like a stained glass lamp shade lying with some old carpet pieces on the side of the road, obviously thrown out on purpose or fallen off of some traveling vehicle? I made a mental note to myself that if it was still there on my return home, I would stop and get it. I knew it could be broken, but it seemed enough intact that it could be used as garden art if not an indoor lamp.
It WAS there on the way back, so I stopped and found that it was a floor lamp with a very nice quality stained glass shade hanging off of it. It was only still attached because it couldn't wedge past the light bulb that was still there. I removed the bulb to free the shade and saw that it was broken a little, but the damaged area was fairly small.
I put the shade and the pole (which had quite a heavy base) into my car and continued on my merry way. After getting it inside at home and doing a little better inspection, I found that part of the piece that holds the light bulb had pulled away from the lamp and some wires had been pulled loose. I repaired the wiring and re-seated the bulb holder part (yes, I'm a girl and I can still repair lamp wiring.... get over it ! ha ha).... and then I put the bulb back in the lamp to make sure it worked before adding the shade back on. Vwa-LA !! .... it did !! The broken part of the shade was only across a couple of inches of the glass, so I attached the shade back to the lamp and turned the cracked part to the wall. You can't see the damage from any of the other three sides, so I called it good !
There is so much beauty left in it to enjoy and I'm so glad nobody else took the broken old thing. :) I consider it quite the unexpected prize.
Have you found a happy treasure on the side of the road and taken it home? Will you tell me what it was?
One of the first dressers I ever owned and a bookcase to match. Well, in fact, they didn't match until I painted them, crayola colors, with different colored knobs. I had those little pieces of fun for years.
Nice find! When my old floor lamp with a stained glass shade was caught up in the Symphony Of Destruction several years ago (long story short, my cat hopped on top of the bookshelf six feet up where the printer was at an odd angle because I had been accessing the plugs in the back, tipping it off the shelf and taking out a salt lamp and the floor lamp on the way down), I repurposed the glass shade as a plant pot. I love stained glass, so I definitely wanted to save that piece! I'm glad your whole lamp was fixable.
I'm sorry your prized lamp was broken, but I think it is great that you found a way to repurpose the beautiful shade so you could continue to enjoy it. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your story. I appreciate it.
I have found a few things :my first ever VHS player, a Toro self propelled lawnmower that only needed a spark plug and TLC, and even a propane BBQ grill that I used for years!
Oh yeah...very nice light.

Ohhhhh.... sweeeet. I bet I would have loved those crayola colored drawers. :) Thanks for coming to see me. Luv ya !
The colors were so YOU!
I was so sad the day I gave it away, but, it needed a new little boy/girl to love... I am sure it is still alive and kicking.

Wow ! That's a LOT of good stuff. Amazing what people get rid of that should still have a lot of useful life left. Thanks for dropping over.
very nice finding... that was your lucky day!
It WAS my lucky day ! How often do treasures like that appear from practically nowhere? Thank you for commenting. Hope your heart is happy.
