Spotify Faces $345 Million In Damages
Spotify's Legal Problems
Spotify, possibly considered the current most popular music streaming service, looks to face having to pay $345 million in legal damages to Bob Gaudio and Bluewater Music Services Corporation. As reported by Forbes online, Spotify stands accused of having failed to pay licensing fees for songs streamed on their service. The problems apparently has to do with Spotify's failure to obtain a "Mechanical Recording License" which is intended to provide compensation to composers of recorded materials. Spotify is liscensed by ASCAP and BMI and has previously made a multi-million dollar settlement with the National Music Publisher’s Association (NMPA) for royalty violations.
Just goes to show that the streaming business can be a very tough game to play.
