The end of the road.
I was just at the end of the road a couple of days ago at a beautiful place called Cockle creek in Tasmania. This is as far south as you can drive in Australia. I only had a short stay here as i arrived well after dark and left around 9am the next morning.
My morning view looking out over Recherche Bay.
The weather was perfect and an awesome place to wake up on the first day of winter. Cockle creek got its name from the mouth having had lots if Cockles, oysters and mussels found there as it enters the sea. The area was once home to over 2000 early European settlers, including sealers, convicts, whalers, timber cutters and timber mill workers.
The area is now a place for camping and an access point for treks into the South West National Park, such as the South Cape track to South Cape Beach about a 5 hour return walk and a walking track to Fishers Point Navigation Light and Pilot Station remains.
There are a few remains left from the early days of this place. As i did not have much time to explore i am sure there was more to be found.
Remains of a timber mill.
Some cemetery graves sites.
The end of the road.
I did the Whale sculpture walk.
Photo bombed by a bird and the Moon.
A few photos out over Recherche Bay from the Whale sculpture platform.
Some info from signs at the Whale platform that might give you a better idea about things here.
Cockle Creek.
Most southern road bridge In Australia over Cockle Creek.
As far as i can tell this is the most southern public toilet block just incase you wanted to know.
