Curly Hair

in #hair9 years ago (edited)

I'm in this hair group on Facebook that has about 30,000 members from all different backgrounds whether it's religion, culture, country, economic, Etc. And there is one common thread among everybody, especially people from the Caribbean... And that is how much harassment we get because we're wearing our hair the way it grows out of our head.

People think stuff like this is ridiculous but typically those dismissing this don't have to deal with the constant harassment from friends, family and complete strangers. She handled it like I do LOL. I bet you that cashier I won't be saying shit to anybody ever again LOL

Every day multiple times a day somebody posts about one of their experiences whether it's at work, at home or on the street... And I'm just over here like this is so fucking ridiculous. Why do people feel so entitled to comment when their opinion was not asked for? Why do people feel like they can just walk up to somebody... A lot of times a complete stranger, and put their hands on any part of their body without asking for permission? Boggles the mind. The sense of entitlements is gargantuan.

I'm not going to post in this particular essay why this happens or why people feel entitled or why people think it's okay to demean somebody's natural hair. Because it's almost always something negative.

I'm saving that for another post :)
