Roger Federer had a tough and close fight with Novak Djokovic. Their rematch eventually favored him, by which in Wimbledon, Djokovic won against Federer. 

Djokovic failed to be the year-end number 1

In order to become the year-end number 1, Djokovic has to win the Finals after he was being defeated by Dominic Thiem. But as he loses from Federer, there is no way for him to claim number 1. 

Rafael Nadal as the year-end number 1

In order to remain at number 1, he has to win the fight against Daniil Medvedev. Fortunately for him, Rafael Nadal defeated Daniil Medvedev. We cannot say, but he has the possibility to end up as the champion of ATP Finals.

Will it be a great year-end for Federer

If ever Federer will win the ATP Finals, it will be a great year-end for him. For me, I want him to win as he gets closer to retire.
