Microsoft is working on a decentralized blockchain identification system

Microsoft's technology giant has been working on a decentralized identification system based on bitcoin, #Ethereum and Litecoin public blockchain for a year now. This was reported in the company's blog (https://goo.gl/HHRCXK).

"Over the last 12 months we have made a list of ideas to create identification systems based on blockchain (and other technologies of the distributed registry), which will allow to increase the level of security of personal data, and to expand opportunities for management," wrote the Director of program management Department of the identification for Microsoft's Alex Simons.

As they say in the message, the company intends to start system of decentralized identification (DID) on the basis of the Microsoft Authenticator application. Unlike other modern forms of identification, the new platform will not be managed by a single organization, be it government or a large company. According to the idea of the creators, the novelty will eliminate the possibility of censorship, while users will retain full control over their data and reputation.

"Having studied a number of decentralized data storage systems, consensus protocols and blockchain, we came to the conclusion that this technology meets the challenges facing the identification system," the blog says.

It is worth noting that the idea of creating such a platform for digital documents based on blockchain has been raised by various companies for a long time, while it has little to do with payments or cryptocurrencies. According to Microsoft, the giant considers bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin technologies to be a suitable basis for DID.

Recall that in early December last year, Ethereum developer and Creator of the standard ERC20 Fabian Thelistener said he intends to use a set of rules ERC-725 for standardization of digital identity.

The model involves the execution of the necessary processes for the implementation and control of digital identification through smart contracts. A standardized system of all applications to the digital identity of companies and individual entrepreneurs must provide full interoperability between them.

In addition, the standard ERC-725 will be "flexible" to use not only for identification but also for different "objects and robots", including in the area of supply chain management.
