Extreme hiking off the beaten path in Hawaii

Aloha from Honolulu

Thank you for stopping by. So, when you hear hiking, what do you imagine? Maybe a long walk in the forest or mountain along a paved trail, right? Sometimes there's a bench. A water fountain or even a bathroom. Lucky you.

I'm no expert on hiking trails anywhere but I can tell you what hiking trails are like in Oahu. It's no picnic, that's for sure.

Although there are many hiking trails on government property that have such amenities, most true hikers on the island enjoy the off-the-beaten path types of hiking. That means that you are out venturing to the wild where rarely others have ventured before you, as you can see from the black and white photo. No bathroom. No water fountains. No paved roads. Good luck and be prepared to get lost, get scared, get very hungry and tired. Lets' hope you brought enough water. And get home in one piece.

Words can't express what wild hiking is, so I will show you some of my hiking photos, instead. Lets' see what you think of it.

There are two options: turn back or keep going. Hikers don't turn back. Only one option; go forward. Take all the time you need to tackle this obstacle...

Too high up but not wide enough?! Use your smart. Start with your ass. Straddle your beautiful rocks. Again, your only option is to move forward. Good luck. Take all the time you need. You're on your own. Don't look down!
True-manamana was my birthday hike. I spent months hiking other trails just to prepare for this one. It took two hours of straight up climb to get to this hike trail head for another super scary five hours. A total of over nine grueling hours when we finally made it back to our parked cars. That was my last crazy hike.

Once in a while you get rewarded. What?! You're scared of bacterias?! What did you think was in the mud in your shoes? None sense. Jump in. Cool down before another treacherous uphill climb in the heat.

Kahikili is located on the North side of Oahu. It's specific location is above the Crouching Lion.
A straight up climb while fighting with slippery muddy pathway, fighting neck deep sticky overgrown ferns. I hated this hike.

The only way to get to the other side, use your short legs and your long jump skills. Nope. I needed help from my friends. Hold my hand really tight just in case I loose me into a small dry stream!

So, based on these pictures of some of my hiking, what are your thoughts? Would you like to participate or congratulate?! Either way, I hope you enjoyed a small exciting scare. I was always scared. By the way, I don't get that crazy anymore. True story. So, is this something you might want to try in the future?

Again, thank you for stopping by. Until we meet again, have a wonderful day.

Aloha!

I did some of this type of hiking in Utah when I was younger. Ending up on cliffs with the only way to go but up is beyond nerve wreaking.

Those were moments when I began to understand the power of life and Mother Nature. I'd beg to be spared just to do it all over again and again.

Thank you for sharing. Aloha!

no thank you! I am to fragile for such risks!

Yeah, I don't get that crazy anymore. I got tired of being so scared of falling to death each time I'm out there. Aloha @doctorjohn!

Aloha! Of the ones you listed, I only hiked the Koko Crater rim. Keep sharing, mahalo.

Aloha @mprgrmmr! The rim has a few tricky spots, doesn't it? That was one of my training hike in preparation for True-manamana. Have a great day.

Yes, it does. For as many trails I hit, I never took True-manamana either. The closest to extreme I've come was Olomana. ...can't wait for pau hana... have a great weekend!

Oh yeah! Olomana was our stomping ground for a quick workout because it's short. I don't mean to sound conceited but true for back in the days.
The back side (Ahiki) was, super loose rocks, sketchy. Have a great day.
