Replanting and pruning our Coffee Tree
We Replanted our Coffee Tree
Our coffee tree was looking pretty sad. It had outgrown its pot and the soil hadn't been replaced in years. It was time to replant our Coffee tree.
We got a bigger pot for our tree.
The soil is topsoil, vermaculite and acidifer.
We took this opportunity to prune.
Coffee trees also really like a good pruning. We cut off every sickly branch an those which were growing the wrong direction.
Our Happy Tree
Even a few days later, the tree did not look shocked. We think we will see a great health improvement over the next few weeks.
Bless the Most High!
A coffee tree!! Wow! That’s really cool. Does it provide coffee beans if taken care of properly? I feel like I don’t have a good spot in my house for such a tree, gosh I wish I did!
We had ONE coffee cherry from this tree. It was a big deal watching it turn red and tasting the berry. Of course we kept the beans inside (there's two per berry), but not much coffee from two beans. None really. We're hoping that by fertilizing and replanting we'll have an actual crop of berries, maybe enough for one or two cups of coffee! @ironshield
Ooooh, but that is exciting anyway!! You could do the chocolate covered beans. That's always a tasty treat, even with only two. Haha
this is really great. thank you for this. :)
i know have an idea on what to do in our backyard. hehe
If our climate allowed, we would plant this tree outside. But it's too cold in the winter. @ironshield
i'm in a tropical country so planting this tree would be possible. :)
I am really horrible about pruning. I did however prune my rose bush the other day in hopes it will start blooming..
Pruning seems so counter-productive. But we read that coffee trees love to be pruned way back. @ironshield
I have got to show this post to my husband!! He absolutely LOVES coffee! This will definitely be something we look into having once we get a bigger space. Thank you so much for sharing about your tree and a little about how you care for it!! 😊
We enjoy our coffee tree. We watched it go from a little plant to a big bushy tree. We hope to have a berry crop from it someday. @ironshield
That’s so awesome!! 😊
We grew coffee when we lived in Costa Rica. The flowers have an awesome scent. The berries were harvested the beginning January.
Oh I've never smelled a coffee flower before. Curious. I wonder if our tree will ever flower? @ironshield
It may. I think it depends on the growing conditions.
I never knew that replanting and pruning a coffee tree was so easy!
Well, the way you have explained it in the post, it looks very easy but I know how much effort must have been required. It must have also taken you fair amount of time to do all the work, and also get a new pot and soil additives.
The photos are nicely taken - almost real-life, which makes the post all the more useful.
Thank you, i'm glad you enjoyed the post.
The potting soil was left outside and froze. The trickiest part was 'defrosting' the soil so we could mix in the other ingredients. I had some very cold hands stirring up the halfway frozen soil. @ironshield
Once you get those beans. You could truly say you have a cup of home brewed coffee 😊
That will be fun someday if it ever produces. @ironshield
Does it smell amazing?
I was hoping the leaves would smell like coffee, but they don't really smell like anything. @ironshield
Incredible pictures and the process is detailed and felt like we were there watching you go through it..simple to follow.
By the way....did someone say "shock"?
