Love is the Air...

Yes ! It's Valentine's Day or should I say it's Valentine's Week. Everyone is planning on where to dine, what gift to buy and most important who to celebrate with! We've got to understand that Valentine isn't just for loved ones such as boyfriend-girlfriend or husband-wife; it's also for siblings, parents and to some extend friends as well. I call it a celebration where we openly declare our love to the other.

But, why do we wait for Valentine's Day to openly declare our emotions. Valentine's Day should be celebrated everyday; 365 days a year; every hour; every second.

For me, Valentine is about being with your loved ones; no matter where we are or what we're eating. I have a favorite restaurant that I go with my hubby. A place which we're very comfortable and have been dining there since our courtship. And till now, after sixteen years, we still dine in this same restaurant together when it's our date night.

This restaurant has been here for more than two decades. Solely an independent japanese restaurant with the Head Chef being a japanese, it serves authentic japanese cuisine. For the locals, the english menu is given in which detailed explanation in english is provided and actual photos of the signature dishes are shared.

For the Japanese diners, another menu is provided. Written in japanese, the Chef's choice is highlighted on a square green table board. Using white chalks to write the dishes, this table menu is placed on the table of these diners. Unfortunately for me, since neither one of us know how to read japanese, we would always opt for the english menu.

Our usual favorite is Popai Potato served with Pork Bacon and Gyoza, commonly known as meat dumplings served with ginger slices and vinegar. For our date night, we opt to celebrate it by ordering the Seafood Teppanyaki Set. It's condiments include a pickle dish, steam white rice, chawamushi also known as steam egg and fruits for dessert.

Thankfully, we arrived just before seven and managed to get a table not to near to the entrance. Ten minutes after we ordered our meal, the rest of the diners came in and the entire restaurant became over crowded. There were no more empty tables; even the tatami rooms were taken up. The diners were a mixture of both locals and japanese guest; there seemed to be more tables with the younger age diners as compared to before.

I guess they too have found this little secret restaurant through the words of mouth because they hardly do any online promotions or advertisements. Food is as good as how we remembered it to be although it been months since we both dined here.

I rate this restaurant 10 out of 10 on every aspect. Afterall, we have been coming back here for the last twenty years. What else can i say !
