Lou Wong Chicken Rice| Authentic Ipoh Staple Food | Tasteem Review
In my recent family food retreat holiday, we made our usual pit stop on our way home. As it took approximately 4 hours by road, it seemed only natural that we stop for lunch at our favourite and usual town, Ipoh.
This city is all about food as it is said that the water which comes from the mountain is clear and great for health. Whatever vegetables grown in this area taste magnificient. Taugeh which is a local dish in Ipoh commonly known as Beansprouts is a MUST to eat.
We dropped by a local restaurant best known for it's Chicken Rice and Steamed Beansprouts. Lou Wong is a common name in this town, and if you're not familiar, you might actually end up in the wrong coffeshop and not being able to taste the true and original Chicken Rice and Beansprouts.
The inside of the restaurant is just as how it was many moon ago when it first opened its doors to the locals. Unlike many other coffeeshops that have evolved and renovated, Lou Wong stayed true to it's origin. Not a single upgrading was done to the interiors as the owner believed that it's because of its food that people still walk in thru his doors. Talk about pride !!
Well.. He's got to right as till today, many still come back here although there are many other new coffeeshops and restaurants that have opened to compete in this same cuisine and dishes.

Now, how many coffeeshops would you know that have the entire kitchen available for customers to see. Hygiene is a number one priority for them to do so. No dish is complete without mixing it with their homemade chili sauce. As you may noticed, there's a self-service signage for the condiments.
Look at the crowd
We were fortunate to have gotten a table for four although it was only close to noon by the time we arrived at Lou Wong. We found most of the tables were seated by customers who were both locals and some were probably like us., on holidays.
Our orders
We ordered half of a whole steamed chicken, steamed beansprouts and also fried pork. The portion is huge even for four of us.
Steamed Beansprouts
Fried Pork
Homemade chili sauce
We even managed to quickly take a photo before we started to eat... Yeah ! We were that hungry.
Unfortunately, in coffeeshops such as these, there was no physical menus for us to refer to. The servers will tell us verbally what is available and take our orders or not we can refer to the photos on the wall to know what is available.
Our meal cost us RM 66 which is approximately USD16 which is really fair.
Overall rating is **EXCELLENT **! That's why I return to this same coffeeshop everytime I visit this town.
