Banh Trang Tron | Rice Paper Salad | Tasteem Review

Street food in Vietnam is beyond any understatement of explanation!
STREET FOOD IS VIETNAM !
Everyone dines on the street. Be it a full meal, a snack or just coffee. Everyone loves to sit by the street; and I literally mean sit by the street in those small lazy old man chairs facing the pedestrians or vehicles bypass.
So, the thought of street food in Vietnam to me is everything. Of course, I couldn't put everything in this one post but I thought I would share something new which I was introduced to just over a week ago.
Bahn Trang Tron or best pronounced as Bang Chang Chook is the famous local street food in HCMC. Best known as Rice Paper Saled, it's suited to those who have both spicy & sour taste bud.
You can find this snack in most streets in Vietnam though I've been told the origins is from HCMC. Seeing this elderly lady & her daughter preparing this snack from their little food cart ( which is very common in Vietnam ) just in front of the Vincom Centre in District One, I took out my courage to walk towards them and ordered my first Banh Trang Tron in the best Vietnamese accent I could find.
It's ingredients include
| Shredded rice paper
| Unrip green mango thinly sliced
|Dried tiny shrimps
| 5-6 Quail Eggs
| Soya sauce, Salt, Chili paste, Red Vinegar, 1 lime
The young daughter nodded her head in acknowledgement. Standing by the side, I watched her use a plastic container and began filling it up with the ingredients.
With all the ingredients in the container, she used a plastic bag to mix the ingredients properly. No need to use any spoon or spatula to mix it. Just plain simple plastic bag. Then using the same plastic bag, she filled the mixture in it. Talk about multi-use of the plastic bag. Tying the bag nicely into a knot, she gave me a pair of wooden chopsticks.
I PAID VND20,000 = USD0.86
Now, where can you find a street snack at this price in the world ! Best thing is it's really tasty with a slight tinge of spiciness. I like it so you can bet that I would order again.
