Hello Steemit family, I hope you’re all well and keeping safe. Once again am honored to be on this platform. Today I am sharing my thought on the topic plagiarism.

WHAT IS PLAGIARIASM?

In my understanding, plagiarism is the use of another person’s craft/work without giving credit to them. This can as well be called stealing. Image Source

Wikipedia defines Plagiarism as “the representation of another author's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's own original work”Source.

According to the Oxford dictionary "Plagiarism is presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement."Source.

With the fast growing usage of technology and the internet in our day to day lives, there are several cases of people using the copy and paste system and not giving credit to the owners of the material they have used in their work. It is okay to use this material but very unprofessional not crediting the author of the material.

Forms of Plagiarism

Complete Plagiarism
This is the type of plagiarism that occurs when one uses another person’s work without citation. For one to use another author’s work, it’s only professional to give credit and have correct citations.

Direct Plagiarism
This the type of plagiarism where one uses one uses the words of another in the exact form they were in without quoting and pass it of as their own work.

Self or Auto Plagiarism
This is the type of plagiarism where one submits or reuses his or her formerly submitted work in the place of current work. This encourages laziness and unprofessionalism.

Paraphrasing Plagiarism
This is the type of plagiarism when one pick another person’s words and makes a few changes even if the meaning remains the same. Then uses it as their own.

Mosaic Plagiarism
This is the form of plagiarism where one gets pieces information, words or photos from different authors and uses these to create work without changing either the wording or even summarizing it.

Inaccurate Authorship
This is a form of plagiarism where one contributes to a craft, work or invention and doesn’t get credit for it. This can also happen when one is given work to edit work and make minor changes from the original work.

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

Below is a list of measure you can take to avoid plagiarism,

 Create your own idea
 Cite Your source
 Use Quotations marks
 Paraphrase and summarize
 Remember to use a plagiarism checker
 Always seek permission

Conclusion

While I was doing my research for this task content Etiquette, I learnt a lot that I didn't know about content etiquette and I believe this knowledge will guide me to better content creation in future.
