EXODUS * INTRO
LIVE LONG AND PROSPER
It was in the year of 2030 that the change finally came: The End Game.
For many, it was a surprise, for the few in the know it was the destiny.
A century later, the leaders understood.
For many years now, Earth had had its climate changed.
Not only that, the pattern had changed:
Places that used to be dry were now wet, and places that used to be wet were now dry.
Neither the politicians nor the so-called ‘environmental’ groups were able to commit anything to stop the process.
The joke from the Desert Water Corporation that never got the funding to change the parameters was this: ...“Live long and prosper.”
After 2030 it got worse and worse still.
Finally, the UN took charge and started the final operation, but by then it was too late for the human kind, and also for a lot of the major group of animals, fish, birds and the rest of living organisms.
These stories are about what happens next, all over Earth.

THE BLUE BERRIES
“If you live an ordinary life, all you have to tell are ordinary stories, “Aurora Lane’s father (Passengers, 2016).
In the north of Norway one can find wild blue berries, much smaller than the farmed ones – but also much sweeter. You pick them by hand and every child doing this comes home with a blue mouth and blue fingers!
To get to them, you have to climb around two hundred meters up the mountainside – which usually only takes half an hour. They grow alongside the lingonberries and the blackberries and the cloudberries.
By the end of the 22-nd century they were gone, much to the demise of the children – as now they didn’t have them to make jam for the pancakes; but also the other wild berries were gone – and to the sorrow of the grown-ups.
What had happened?
From the west, the warm water from the Mexican Gulf had stopped as the Polar freshwater were melting and the ice floating on the East Coast of USA, blocking the transport.
Now, the weather had changed so much that there was no longer any normal spring, summer or fall in Norway. There was the steady drizzle of rain – and then later the ice came.
The transition took nearly a century; but no one took any notice; or rather: Action.
There were some environmental groups like the Bellona that tried to warn people; but shouting in the media is not the same as taking action.
The various governments were one after another pretending more or less to work for the environment, but again: No real action.
Money was paid every year to the UN, and of course Norway was supporting the financing of the Exodus – but still no action; just words.
In the meantime, there were no longer any blue berries, cloudberries and so forth.
The ice crept south and people were starting to prepare for the trip to a southern climate: Africa.
What happened to the blue berries?
The DNA was stored alongside with the South American, the North American and the African species in the cargo holds – to be revived five hundred years later; but some of the blue berry plants would be kept alive in the star ship under Oda’s order; when that time came.
Christina remembered her childhood days – visiting her grandmother in Lofoten, picking the blue berries in the late fall – then to help the old lady make the jam and the pancakes; and missing that a lot. Then there were the cloudberries!
Some memories are to be kept.
...to be continued.
