Material Imbalances

Interesting Material Imbalance

In this game I had a rather interesting material imbalance, I got two Rooks and a Knight versus a queen (converted to two Knights and a Rook versus a queen)
found creative sacrifice that gave him enough problems to give me a win.

I played with the black pieces.

[BlackElo "1755"]

1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 g6 4.Be3

Supposed to be an easy to play attack.

4...Bg7 5.h3 O-O 6.Qd2 Nc6

This on the other hand gives black a little counterplay on d4.

7.Nf3 e5 8.d5 Ne7 9.Bh6 Ne8

This might look weird but I had some intention of capturing with the knight on g7 and push f5, or just push f5 and f4 to force him to capture on g7, a funny thing here is he is kind of giving up his good bishop to capture my bad one, although bishops are not so great in this structure to closed.

10.O-O-O f5 11.Bd3 f4

My point is still that he has to capture my bishop on g7, but now he is also left with a bad bishop on d3.

12.Bxg7 Nxg7 13.h4 h6 14.Be2 a6 15.Rdg1 b5 16.g4 Bb7 17.h5 g5 18.Nxg5 hxg5

This sacrifice is kind of interesting, but I don't think he has enough pressure to justify that sacrifice.

19.h6 Ne8 20.Rh5 Ng6

Perhaps this is to eager, Kh7 is probably a better move here.

21.h7+ Kh8 22.Rh6 Qf6 23.Rgh1 f3

again might have been a little over eager here, the next move is not so great either a better follow up is Ng7, to keep his Rook out of h5.

24.Bd3 Bc8 25.R1h5 Kg7 26.Rxg5 Kxh6 27.Rf5+

This gave a rather interesting material balance, I get the rooks vs the queen, I think it is harder to have the white pieces than the black pieces in this position black has a lot of pressure and can get very good coordination.

27...Kxh7 28.Rxf6 Nxf6 29.Qg5 Bxg4 30.Nd1 Rf7 31.Ne3 Bd7 32.Nf5 Bxf5 33.exf5 Nf4 34.Bf1 Rg8 35.Qh4+ N6h5

At this point I think black has a nice advantage, but perhaps it will require some creativity to make it a winning advantage, luckily I found a rather creative way to play.

36.Kd2 Rg1 37.Bd3 Rf6

Just locking f5 down so that he cannot move it forward, that would give white a lot of attack, no reason to give him that.

38.b3 Re1 39.Qg5 Re2+

This might look strange to give up the rook right here, but I do get a crushing passed pawn, and I will have two knights and a rook vs the lone queen, it should be a much better position for black.

40.Bxe2 fxe2 41.Ke1 Ng7 42.Qh4+

This is not the best way to handle the position, but it is kind of hard to play the white pieces.

42...Rh6 43.Qg3 Rh1+ 44.Kd2 e1Q# 0-1
