Predictions for the Future. What Should We Expect by 2025?

in #technology5 years ago

Do you ever wonder what life will look like in the future, what technologies we will be able to deploy or what inventions will improve our daily living? According to Singularity Hub, in the next couple of years, we'll witness a rapid technological growth driven by new developments in different fields such as artificial intelligence or the blockchain.

Here's what we should see by the year 2025.

Augmented & Virtual Reality

Facebook, Microsoft , Google and other huge names such as Sony, HTC or Qualcomm are actively involved in creating the next generation displays and interfaces.
It is believed that the screen, as we now know it, will gradually disappear from our stores and from our homes. What will come next? The answer is eyewear. The impact will be huge as all industries will adapt their service and content to this new technology.

Artificial Intelligence

Similarly, we will see an unprecedented development in the field of AI. The practical benefits will be overwhelming as these virtual assistants will be able to provide support in a wide range of operations and processes. In a couple of years, we might rely on AI to record our messages, read our emails, or scan our biometric data. Some of the giants involved in developing AI are IBM Watson, Vicarious, DeepMind. As the race to create the most reliable and user-friendly technologies increases, consumers will be faced with different alternatives, targeted to their specific needs.

Increased Knowledge

As technology grows at an unprecedented rate, so is our ability to gather information. We are already able to find within a couple of minutes answers to questions that used to send us to the library only a couple of decades ago. The large number of devices using sensors that gather data from different fields (satellites, drones, cameras, self-driving cars), will make knowledge readily available at any time, anywhere. Companies will continue to leverage the data they gather to gain more insight into consumers habits.

A Laptop that Equals the Human Brain

According to Singularity Hub, by 2025, 1000$ will suffice to buy a computer that has the power to calculate 10^16 cycles per second (10,000 trillion cycles per second). This result equals the processing speed of a regular human brain.

A New Healthcare System

The NHS of most countries are blamed for being slow, inefficient or uncapable of providing treatments for a variety of diseases and disorders. Things are expected to change in the future as large companies (Apple, Google, Microsoft, IBM) and small startups alike are ready to invest in creating a better, more reliable healthcare alternative.
Of course, everything will come at a due price, as this is a highly profitable industry. However, with the aid of private initiative, what we now consider an outdated system is about to turn into a more democratic and efficient structure.

By deploying AI and biometric wearables, we will be able to trace the root of our diseases easier, to monitor our health more efficiently and to intervene at the right moment. Also, robots will become more popular in the surgery room, being able to perform small interventions autonomously.

The world around us is constantly changing and technology is the main force that drives progress.

We will surely see and experience a great deal of innovation during our lifetime.
