Troll(1986): Movie Review
Hello Steemians,
I hope you all are having a wonderful day. And I just learned to appreciate my life a little more.
A couple of weeks back this happened on Steemit.
I accepted the movie challenge from my buddy @vincentnijman, Who is a filmmaker and studies them and is an awesome guy. And since the movie that I accepted for review "TROLL2" is a sequel, I had to sit through first part as well for understanding the plot. And here is the review of that. Before proceeding further Its fair to give you all a spoiler alert
Spoiler Alert: In this review, I'll be putting in my personal opinion about the movie and will be discussing character development and Plot. And by the end of the movie, I am sure we will ask this question "How drunk I was?". And I cannot emphasize more on this but "Damn, This was a hard watch".
And no I was not kidding, it is a hard watch. Usually, I do a quick research on the internet in the movie that I am to watch. But this time made an exception and I went in completely unaware of what this movie is going to be I didn't even know about the genre. And just like that I slid into "TROLL (1986)"
I was paying attention to the details and since I didn't know who was starring I watched the opening credit. And I got stuck there for awhile, The opening credits were in play displayed few names Micheal Moriarty, Noah Hathaway and then it displayed and starring in alphabetical order Sonny Bono, Phil Fondacaro, Brad Hall, Anne Lockhart followed by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Now I am no expert but that is not alphabetical order. (One shot of Bacardi rum will fix this)
Let's move forward and leave the opening credit alone. Cause that's the least of our concern. We are introduced to the main characters who are family and they have recently moved to a new apartment. Guess who helped them moving to new apartments the "starving students". No!! I am not joking. Packers and movers called "Starving Student" helped them moving to the new place. Even before the proper introduction to the character, the little girl named Wendy is kidnapped by an ugly looking creature. Or possessed, because she then goes berserk, started roaring and growling and stuff. But here is the question trolls do not possess people right? So what happened to the little girl? Or do the creature has the superpower of shapeshifting? I do know that it has a Ring which has a spike., Is he the troll or the green lantern? These are few questions that got into mind. (One more shot of Bacardi rum will fix this)
Which takes us to the character introduction, The Wife "Anne", The Daughter "Wendy" and the father and son "Harry Sr." and "Harry Jr." Can you guess the last name? It's freaking Potter Yes, the character in this movie is named Harry Potter. And not just THAT; his profession is reviewing books. This movie was from 1986 years before the franchise came into the picture. Not just the names are funny, It is the introduction that was very weird. So total 8 characters were introduced in a stairway seen. And even though it is the weird introduction that was the last conversation in the movie which actually has some meaning. From here on out the logic and sense is out of the window. Because I saw a weird Lamp.
So the troll possessed Wendy started sneak attacking people and we get our first WTF moment in I think 19 minutes. Where our troll possessed Wendy uses her magic ring to stab a the tenant and turning him into a giant joint and the apartment became weed farm. And after a short while, the joint ruptured and little creatures come out of it. "It was at this moment I started thinking why?" Again she goes back to her home and does some more growling and stuff and tosses her elder brother. And for some strange reason, he didn't tell his parents about this wired incident.
The Troll possessed Wendy takes out the entire building one apartment at a time, while Harry Potter was performing the worst dancing ever on the amazing "Summertime Blues", Now the only people survived are the Old lady and the Potter family. In this process, troll possessed wendy puts her brother under a sleeping spell or something. Harry Potter Jr. recovers from the spell with the help of stupid movies (Which I think would be even more painful to sit through) and these movies help him to get into conclusion that his sister is POD person an alien. So he did the most logical thing. Talked about it to a complete stranger, the old lady. Who turned out to be a witch herself later to be revealed as a princess. And she summarised the events in 3 line, They do not have much time, The heart must be destroyed and the Troll name is Torok, from the fairyland. The troll destroys the heart and nothing happens. Things go back to the way they were the weed farms gone and everything back to normal. Now in the final scene, it was shown that the family who lived was heading to the police station to drop a complaint.
That was TROLL (1986). Here the audience gets trolled by the story writers and the director of the movie. I would not say it is the worst movie as there are many things that had actually made me buster into laughter. The dialogues were funny, and I am sure the effects were praised at that time. The music was good. In fact, there was a number in the movie where all the baby trolls come together and sing. Which I think @soundwavephoton department to comment on. The laziness in some of the characters is something to enjoy. This movie was meta at some level otherwise who would name a packer and mover starving students.
I am
Did I mention that there was a weird lamp in this movie?
PS: Special thanks to my friend @vincentnijman, Who has always wanted me to see this drunk for movie review. Just kidding, He is a good fellow who is a movie freak just like me. If you enjoy movies, you will definitely love his posts.
