Re-visit your childhood fav

Even though you read the same book again and again, time may give you a different interpretation for your reading. So it always refreshing to re-visit a book that we read as a kid. I wanted to read some childhood books and I selected “The Children of the New Forest” by Captain Marryat.

To be honest, I don’t remember my first expression of it when reading as a kid, nut it is a well reputed book among the teenager. The best thing about the book is that it is like travelling. We can’t read the book with the 21st century understanding that we are used to. The novella was written in early 19th century which is a time that had ethics and customs that are totally different to our reality. The equality and woman empowerment that we are talking today may lack in the book which is one of the criticism that the text faced with. But you can enjoy the life depicted in the book if you forget about those biases for a moment.

The plot is woven around four chivalry children who had to take refuge in a forest to save their lives in a time of civil war. They had to readapt themselves to match their life in the forest. Their life in the forest is what I enjoyed the most as it’s a very refreshing reading when our life is confined to electronic gadgets here. I would not definitely like to spend years in a forest, but thinking how that life would be is good for a change… I think that’s why it become a good book for the youngsters to read.

Thanks for reading!

Have a nice day!
