January 1st at work

Until this year, January first had been a day that I would spend at home with my fam. However, this new year became different from the previous ones since I had to work on the 1st. I planned to wear a saree on the 1st taking my sis’s advice, but I couldn’t proceed with that plan since there was no one to drive me to buy jacket materials for the saree and get it sewn cz my dad couldn’t drive for the time being. So I gave up that plan and bought a smart casual to wear on the first day of the year.

We planned to arrange a tea table and boil milk to start the new year with the traditions of abundance. As my sis is getting requested, I was also asked to bring our southern specialty malu ambul thiyal which I anyway planned to bring because my mum was supposed to make some my sis. We bought cooking clay pots and necessary items to boil milk.

I was with my sis the previous day, so I had to start a bit early to come to the office. I saw the staff after a week because we got the xmas vacation, and everyone looked so pretty and fresh. We arranged the tea table first and boiled milk. As usual, I was in charge of taking pics and another to video the process. It was a new experience for me because I have only boiled milk with my family so far.

We were eagerly waiting to enjoy our breakfast, but took some minutes to hug each other again to wish a happy new year. We also asked our manager to speak a few words to give some positive vibe to the new year. However, it didn’t end from here he asked everyone to speak a little to share our thoughts about the previous year we spent here, and some new year resolutions. I was a bit embarrassed first to talk as everyone else were senior to me but I could talk without much pressure cz everyone was so chill, and they didn’t expect any formal sort of a speech. It was good to hear from all, and it was finally the time to enjoy our breakfast after that.

We only had to work till 2p.m. that day, but all I did was rearranging my table, decorating it and marking my class hours on the calendar. Everyone was laughing at my enthusiasm to keep my table neat and making it look like a child’s table 😅

Even though I missed my fam a bit on this day, the time spent with my staff was really fun and relaxing.
