It was in Sinhala this time

Our home is resided by the readers with four different reading types. My dad likes to read autobiographies of famous characters. He would buy the book and reads it when only he feels like reading. My big sis likes to read the Sinhala novels, specially translations. She would only read when she found time because she wants to read them at one breathe. My mum is at the most advantageous position at home because she reads anything which gives her the opportunity to read the books that we all buy. But all of them read the novels minding their own business. And there is me. If I like a book, I would keep promoting that book and ask them to read it as well.

However, an exception happens recently. As usual, my big sis read her novel at one breath and asked me to try reading it as well. I was fairly surprised at first. She rarely suggested me to read the books she read, and even in those rare opportunities, they were English novels because that’s what I read. This one was not even a translation, but an original Sinhala novel. I don’t usually get the chance to read the Sinhala novels and the few I got to read were related to my degree. So I thought of giving this novel a shot.

It was “Bikku Parichchedaya” by Upul Shantha Sannasgala. The novel is a continuation of his autobiography. However, it’s more like a collection of short stories which share the same theme. It opens our eyes to the different dimension of the lives of monks and the commoners. The content is very surprising but not so surprising at the same time as they were all real stories of his life. But what I like the most is that he is writing his autobiography to his pet dog; Simba and there was quotes about dogs at the end of the each chapter.

I wanted to read more Sinhala novels after reading it, so I asked my big sis to suggest me more. But more than that, I badly want to meet Simba now.
