Frist Day at the school

in Steem Sri Lankalast year

The day that we agreed to start our internship at the school finally came. And I realized how things have changed now. When I taught previously at a different school in my hometown, I got up at the last minute. Mum ironed my saree while I was doing my hair, and she fed me while I was draping the saree. She would pack my lunch box while I was doing my make up. After all these hustles and bustles, my dad would drop me to the school. But now, things have changes, I’m on my own in the boarding.

I didn’t want to wake up very early to cook food, so I settled down with a lunchbox that doesn’t take much time to prepare. Toasted bread, French fries and melon. It doesn’t really involved much cooking but fills my stomach. I started struggling with my saree after that. There was no one to remind me that I was getting late, so I had to run to get a tuk after I realized it’s already 7.10a.m. Luckily, the school is very closer to my place.

I got to know that it was not only in the boarding that I am alone, but in the school now. It was not like we expected a grandeur welcome but we thought that there would be an introductory phase in which we would be briefed with how things are done there. But there were no such things. We had to figure out where we have to sign in and out, where we can keep bags and stay and where the classes are. We were given grade 6-8 only when we had the meeting, but when we found the class in the first period and started teaching, we were given grade 9-11 too. So our day was packed with 6 grades. But the classes were divided between us two.

The day was very hectic and I was out of breath by 1.30p.m. It was a totally different experience than what I had in an international school. I’ll bring more about my experience later.

Thanks for reading!

Have a nice day!
