Elon Musk: Tesla wants to shade Uber and Lyft

After a user expressed doubts about the operation of the small camera above the Tesla Model 3 rearview mirror, Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, said that the latter was designed to allow vehicles to deploy his full capabilities of autonomous driving.

Make money with Tesla

If the question raised by the user concerned the protection of privacy, it would seem that this feature represents rather an advantage than a disadvantage for owners , according to Elon Musk.

"With this integrated camera, Tesla's owners will be able to earn money by renting their vehicle safely, even if they are not in their car," he says.
Indeed, the camera will record a video while the autonomous car will drive its passengers in carpooling, while this video could constitute evidence in court in case of dispute.

In addition, Musk confirms that this particular feature was put in place to allow the company and its customers to compete with Uber and Lyft in terms of carpooling, says Musk.

Enhanced security

In addition to monitoring the passengers in the absence of the owner, this camera could also be used to supplement the cameras placed outside the vehicle as it allows to see through the windows on the 2nd side and back , still supports Musk.

Effectively, this window could extend Tesla's Sentry mode function by recording images of a burglary or breakage.

And although the cameras are already installed on tesla vehicles, they will remain off until the software is finished and its regulatory approval.

However, additional information regarding this new feature will be revealed by the company in two weeks.
