Scam Alert: EOS airdrop email going around

If you receive an email with the following subject line, recognize it immediately as a scam: “The long awaited day has arrived.”

The email claims that the EOS ICO is over with unsold tokens remaining that will be airdropped. You just have to go to their webpage (which is on EOS.com not EOS.io, btw) and enter things like your ETH wallet address, amount of EOS you have, etc., then go to MEW and execute their contract that supposedly initiates the airdrop.

Of course, we can guess that what that contract actually initiates is the transfer of your coins to them!

I tried bringing this to the attention of Block.one support but got a template reply saying they didn’t want to talk to me if I’m American or Chinese (short version). Just be aware that there are new scams coming out every day trying to steal your tokens. EOS does do A LOT of airdrops, which makes it plausible for a minute. So always make sure you take longer than a minute to act on any such opportunities.

If you’re unsure and not wanting to miss an airdrop opportunity, search the internet for other mentions of the airdrop. Between Reddit, Discord, Telegram and Steemit, someone will already be talking about it if it is legit. Heck, the company itself should have something about it on their website.

In this case, the fake site’s footer actually connected me to the real block.one support email address. That can confuse some people into thinking they are legit. Just realize that even though there are amazing airdrops happening all the time, if something seems too good to be true, and isn’t mentioned anywhere outside an email you received, it’s very likely a scam.

Here is the full body of the scam email:

“The 352 day-long ICO has ended, having raised 2,091,401 Ether for 879,167,655 distributed EOS tokens.
It's been a long and productive year for EOS, the most advanced enterprise blockchain platform - built by block.one for the largest and most supportive community in the crypto world - is now ready to launch and release its native EOS token, in exchange for the ERC20 token issued in the Coin offering.

As of today, May 25th, all holders are eligible for up to 100% bonus EOS ERC20 tokens to top up their portfolio for the token migration event.

Get up to 100% bonus EOS tokens before the token migration event scheduled for June 1st. The rewards smart-contract is up and running!

For a wider distribution of tokens, addresses holding ETH are also eligible for the airdrop, but with a lower reward rate.

Follow the instructions on our website to claim your bonus EOS tokens and stay tuned for more announcements!

I just saw it too and had a feeling it was a scam, given it made no sense to the reality of EOS. Thanks, @indigoocean, for the heads up. :)

Thanks for the heads up. I'm trying to scrape some $$ together to get EOS before the 1st. Hope so. Blessings.

I’m hearing rumors that it may be cheaper after the swap. At this point you may be better off waiting. No one ever really knows though, of course.

And why coinmarketcap link to eos.io and not to eos.com ?

Nice try to scam steemit users !

Don't follow her advices

I downvoted you (my first downvote ever, congrats) because you are either someone who fails to comprehend what you read yet dares to speak against others out of your ignorance... or you’re just full of shit.
