This is the first in a series of posts in which I will reflect on particular aspects of the Utopian ecosystem and how it affects the Open Source world.

Utopian brings a better reputation system to the Open Source world

One of the most important features of the Steem blockchain is its capability to support reputation systems and a public, immutable record of work done. Couple this with Utopian and we get a unique feature that is sought-after by many people in the Open Source world.

When a person contributes to their favorite Open Source project through Utopian, they not only get rewarded for it in monetary terms but in other invaluable ways too, namely; visibility, credibility and authority.

Continuous contributions build a public and immutable record of a person's work. That's like a CV of the highest quality; your work speaks for itself, and if you do well, your reputation in the community will reflect this. With the community features available on the Steem blockchain, I see a much more immersive social experience here on Utopian soon, especially with the release of Utopian 2.0. It will be easy for project owners to find contributors to work with, and even easier for them to decide if they will be a perfect fit.

Contributors get credibility for their skills because all of their work is there to be seen, without the need for a middleman or for human references. That's a powerful advantage, for both contributors and project owners.

With regular work on projects and the increased connections that one makes by using Utopian, a person can build authority on a subject or a skill set. Again, the work will speak for itself and a person's profile will be their proof of skill, so to speak.
