The radio played loudly as she dipped a finger in the hot fudge Sundae and licked up the drippings. She closed her eyes and saw in her mind's eye a full diner at lunchtime, then opened her eyes and saw with her actual eyes an empty mostly empty diner at 4 am. The waiter was alert and perky, maybe she had actually just started her shift, and was an early early morning person, accustomed to serving the very very late night people.
