Salal Berries, an edible plant!

in #edible8 years ago (edited)

In three parts, we learn how to identify the berry, and that they're yummy, even if our expert thinks they're just meh.

To sum: waxy leaves means they stay fresh-looking for a long time, and can be shipped. But the berries dry out and don't taste very good by the end of summer. They seemed like they were maybe at peak freshness when we tried them.

Yep, delicious. Kind of blueberry-tasting, and I don't think that was just because they looked like blueberries.

Lochlan liked them fine and we all had more after the cameras were off.

Very cool! I love learning about and using wild edibles. Salal berries are a new one for me though, thanks for introducing me!

My pleasure! We should go urban foraging next time you're in L.A.!

He is the cutest!!! I am talking about Lochlan - just to be clear. LOL
