Steemit is now building schools
250 Million kids can’t read this
Alright Steemit, it’s time.
A while back I talked about the Mutual Aid Society and how Steemit could be a game changer for non-profits.
Instead of “liking” a picture on Facebook leaving people disillusioned making them believe that is somehow going to help those in need, on Steemit your upvote can help.
Imagine the news coverage.
A successful social media fundraising. Drawing awareness to what’s important. Problems we should care about.
So, what is this about.
This is my first post introducing a charity.
Disclaimer: Before anybody gets mad.
I don’t want to brag here. I’m a strong believer that charitable giving should be kept private. Or at least don’t make a big fuss about it.
I’m not a “better person”. But, if it is for the collective good and pursues a bigger goal than self-praise, it is legit to talk about it.
So, I figured I’d step up and do something in this regard. Besides, no one reading this on here knows me.
The charity is Pencils of Promise.
They fight illiteracy across the world. Building schools. Support teachers.
Check out their Annual Report 2015. An interesting short read.
So far, they have built 363 schools in various countries.
Gary Vaynerchuk, among other important figures, is on their board of directors.
We’re all aware of the problem.
Education is among the basic needs of a human.
What if the solution for world’s most urgent questions and problems is in the head of one of these kids?
But they can’t provide the solution because they don’t have the necessary means to do so.
They can’t get educated and share their solution for climate change with us. For sustainability. Various diseases. Mathematical problems.
Who knows what precious secrets sleep in their minds?
What a waste.
Most people in the Western world don’t care.
Heck, most of our kids hate school. It’s not seen as a privilege. A gateway to a better life.
Not much thought is given to people less fortunate. Kids willing to give their lives in order to obtain some kind of education.
On Monday, August 29th, I used 150$ from my Steemit earnings to donate to PoP.
By no means am I a guy that can “afford” to be altruistic.
I’m a student. Don’t have a lot of money.
But this felt so good.
So much better than buying that new phone no one needs. Even though mine broke yesterday. I didn’t even care.
I’m not here bragging about anything.
Let’s care!
All we need are a couple upvotes. Not even your real money.
100% of the SBD profits will be donated to Pencils of Promise again.
Can you trust me? You decide. I already donated my own money as shown above. I won't be the one ruining my reputation on a platform that feeds me.
Now, it’s our turn.
I will do this for other charities as well.
So, stay tuned.

Great idea and thank you for your dedicated work toward oneness. All for one and one for all! Namaste :)
I briefly checked out the charity and it seems to be legit. I think it is good for the community to support charity. I up voted!
I will upload the pictures of me donating this post's profits as soon as possible.
Nice initiative the world could use more education! I wasn't the best in school, but wish every kid can get a good education!
There's a lot of charity going on in the Steemit community, it's truly heart warming.
Slowly, but surely Steemit is restoring my faith in humanity.
It is a big help to the poor children who wanted to go to school, it can help them a lot for their future. Keep it up. Go for GOLD. Steemit is for ordinary children too :)
