Your Weapons in Spiritual Warfare

Someone said “Victories don’t come by accident. We map out deliberate strategies to win spiritual battles.” In other words, things won’t change unless u make deliberate efforts to change them. Some Christians think conversion brings an end to temptations and trials, they think becoming a Christian leads to a life of comfort without any hitch, but your relationship with Jesus makes warfare with the enemy more intense and inevitable. However, you shouldn’t be afraid as a Christian or allow the battles of life threaten and overwhelm you.

Now that you know that your battle is with an invisible enemy in the spiritual realm, you cannot use physical weapons against them because God has given you invisible spiritual weapon. Below are some of the weapons in your spiritual armory.

THE NAME OF JESUS: The Bible tells us in Philippians 2:9-10, “Wherefore God hath highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things in earth and things under the earth.” You can command any unpleasant situation you are passing through to cease in the name of Jesus (James 4:7). When you muster enough courage to speak directly to that challenge in Jesus’ name, you will discover an immediate sense of deliverance. Your power lies in that name.

THE BLOOD OF JESUS: The blood of Jesus doesn’t only cleanse us and put us in the right relationship with God, it also gives as protection. You are therefore empowered by Jesus to use it as a weapon of warfare. Appropriate the blood of Jesus for maximum protection (Revelation 12:11). Arthur Matthew declares: “the only man [or woman] who can keep the enemy at bay is the intercessor, and blessed is that intercessor who knows how to use the power of the blood in spiritual warfare.”

PRAISE AS A WEAPON: Praise does three things when used in spiritual warfare. First, it glorifies God and helps you to keep your focus on Him and His power. Second, it terrifies the enemy and throws him into confusion. Third, it encourages and enables you to see the victory in the spiritual realm before it is manifested in the physical (2 Chronicles 20: 21-22).

THE WORD OF GOD: Just as Jesus used the Word of God to overcome the devil when he was tempted, you too can use God’s Word to overcome the devil. God’s word is an offensive weapon that chases the enemy away (Hebrews 4:12). Quote it and appropriate God’s promises in every situation.

THE WEAPON OF PRAYER: Prayer is one of the Christian’s most powerful weapons. The Bible commanded that you should pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). So confront that situation with prayer, rather than stand aloof and do nothing. When you travail in prayer, God will answer and intervene, Satan will be defeated and miracle will happen. Be on the alert always (1 Peter 5:8). Also, you should use all the weapons mentioned in Ephesians 6:12-18.

THE WORD OF YOUR TESTIMONY: When you receive answers to your prayer, share it so that God will be glorified, the devil will be ashamed and Christians will be edified. This will increase the faith of both the testifier and those that hear the testimony (Revelation 12:11).

WEAPONS OF FASTING: The Bible made it clear that some challenges will not go except when you add fasting to your prayer (Matthew 17:21). Fasting makes your prayers more effective. Jesus, being our perfect example fasted for forty days (Luke 4:2).

However, it is not enough to know and have all these weapons in your arsenal but you must use them. Also know that these weapons cannot work for you if you are living in sin. You are still under the enslavement of sin and Satan. You don’t have right of authority and power in Jesus. You must first repent of your sins, forsake them and accept Jesus as Saviour and Lord. And if you are a Christian, rise up and begin to enjoy your inheritance and privileges in Christ. The devil has done enough in your life; don’t live at his mercy any longer. Don’t allow him to continue to torment and keep you in perpetual bondage. It is time to arise, take up your weapons and fight, take charge, resist, declare, decree, command, bind, loose and use your God-given authority because God has promised you the victory.
