The FEAR of the LORD: The LONGING to Please Him and Follow Him
As I read this verse this morning there was a rewind of the Lord's goodness and grace in my spirit.
Let me start. There was a time when I was younger that I really wanted to be wise. I just felt like I wanted to be a person ready to give wise thought when it comes to matters people are having a hard time with, not to mention, in my personal concerns. If only I had the wisdom what to say and do when unprecedented situations happened then life would be perceived in a very different way.
My mom always quotes Proverbs, so she told us to read it to prove that what she’s rehearsing into our ears each day is all true. So because of the "wisdom search" coupled with this advice, I found myself opening the pages. I read this verse that says, …
I asked myself, “What does it mean to fear the Lord? Is it like the feeling of fear of death, or the fear of a strange man following you in the dark?” I was like, “Really? There must be a different definition of the fear.” I started to search for it because I wanted to be knowledgeable and wise in every way. Well, I did not realize that the search is not just reading the verse nor merely memorizing it. It has taken me to various experiences and numbers of reflections to get into the heart of the matter. Now, I would say that I am able to pen down what dawned in me about this “FEAR”.
As I continued, there is another verse that helped me along the way, “Let the earth FEAR the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!” It is as clear as crystal that the FEAR of the Lord the verses want to lay down before us is the REVERENCE, RESPECT, and AWE of Him of who He is.
All in all, I can firmly say that the wisdom that I was searching for is my OBEDIENCE and GRATEFULNESS that it is my PRIVILEGE to serve God. So as I read this verse, "To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice." I can give emphasis that all knowledge and wisdom begins right here. The FEAR of the LORD, the LONGING to please Him and follow Him.
