Lady In Waiting
At my old house, I used to hang up three bird feeders: two with bird seeds and one with suet! I like to feed the birds, especially in the winter when they are vulnerable, especially with the weather.
This was a female woody woodpecker! She came sitting on the fence waiting for her turn at the feeder. She got a bit closer, but she didn't dare to go all the way to it, because there was another woodpecker at the feeder already.
This was a male woodpecker, and he possessed the feeder! He wouldn't even let his own specie came close to it! He was mean and ready to pick a fight with any bird.

How kind of you to give the birds food = ) We used to feed the birds by leaving bread parts on the window and whenever they were hungry they kept coming and eating.It felt really good. I should do that again sometime whenever there is no wind since the wind can blow their food away.

These are awesome photos @icybc!! I love woodpeckers! Have never seen any by my house but I've heard them. I like to put bird feeders out as well. I use safflower and black thistle in mine. The Cardinals love the safflower!

Thanks @icybc!! It is nice to see the birds come by and taking photos is always a bonus! Sometimes the prettiest little finches stop by but they sure are fast!
Oh I know what you mean about the finches, but I found one flower plant to grow in the summer that will attract load of them to it. Plant some sun flowers @deerjay, and sit near by quietly to watch them devour the seeds. They are very pretty to watch :-)
