Oldsmobile 442... Second Generation

This one is my favorite year, 1971.. Not by any means, am I trying to knock the other years in this generation or the 1st Generation(because they had plenty of torque and hp as well).. Actually, they had more than the 71'. I just like the way this one looks..
The years for the 2nd Generation was from 1968- 1972..
The 4-4-2 comes from its original car's 4- barrel carburetor, 4- speed manual transmission, and its dual(2) exhausts..
Some of these 442's had the option of the, W30 performance package that included a highly efficient cold-air intake system, that sucked fresh air through the new W-25 Forced Air Induction system, with the twin-scooped fiberglass hood.

In 1968, the 400 CID V-8 which produced 440lb- ft. of torque and 350hp was the base engine(for the manuals), and 325hp(for the automatic).
With the W30 engine, still rated at 360hp.
0-60: 7.0 seconds
1/4 mile: 15.13 seconds @ 92mph

Oldsmobile teamed up with Hurst Performance and the cars left the factory with 2 different drivetrains combinations. Both engines were rated at 390hp.
0-60: 5.4 seconds
1/4 mile: 13.9 seconds @ 103mph

Not bad, if I may say so myself.. Ha

Some changes were made to the 69'. Like the front grill is now divided(looks more clean).
The trunk lid inlets for the tail lights(don't like the way this looked)..
Just to name a few..

I guess it'll grow on ya, if you look at it long enough...LOL..
The engine was slightly detuned to 380hp.
Hurst/Olds Performance
0-60: 5.9 seconds
1/4 mile: 14.03 seconds @ 101 mph

Detuned or not, this is still boogying down the road...

Oldsmobile drops the 400 CID, and goes with a bigger Olds 455 V-8.. This is now the standard 4-4-2 engine. With the W30 option, this baby puts out a whopping 500lb- ft. of torque and 370hp.
A 1970- 442 was used in a chase scene in the movie, Demolition Man.

The 442's could still be ordered with the W30 option, which included the L77 455 engine that produced 410lb - ft. of torque and 300hp.
Even with restrictions and all, as this generation was coming to a close, it still had plenty of power to play with..
