Many times we feel like giving up, feel like throwing in the towel, we even feel like we are not as strong as the situation before us, so what's the point in fighting back..... Well, I want to share a profound Yoruba proverb with us today that teaches about perseverance and endurance. The situation may not be as bad as you thought!

Proverb:

In Yoruba Language - Eni tégun nle ko r’oju, bo’se nre eniyan beena l’ónre ara orun.
English Translation - He who is being pursued by masquerade should not falter, because the heavenly beings (masquerades) also get tired like humans.

Usage:

The adage is mostly used to encourage people to endure through difficult situations - for with perseverance, they will eventually overcome.

Further Explanation

Masquerades, in Yoruba Culture, are regarded as an heavenly being (a spirit), but in actual sense, a Masquerader comes from a family whose heritage is masquerading, it is this person that usually wears the ‘’éku egun’’ (masquerade costume). So, the literal meaning explains that people should not get tired easily when pursued by masquerades as that masquerade (who is actually human) will also get tired at some point.
