COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SERVICE:- Sensiization on lassa fever

Serving my country hasn't been a bed of roses but it's has been worth the while. I must say it has been a thing of joy rendering selfless service and creating an impact in my immediate environment in my own little way. I am currently serving in enugu state of Nigeria,i belong to a CDS(community Development Service) group called PABS which is a combination of four groups
P- PET(peer education trainers)
A- Anti-ebola
B- BWS(breast without spot)
S- SDG(sustainable Development Goal)
We sensitize the masses about HIV/AIDS,anti-ebola,breast cancer,and how to create sustainable development in the community
As at yesterday being february 22nd,2018 we had a sensitization on lassa fever at a market called EKE market.

At EKE market

Lassa fever as we know is an acute viral haemorrhagic illness in west africa, we made them understand that lassa fever is transmitted from animals,rodents to be specific to man through their urine or faeces
We stressed the need for them to make sure their food stuffs were properly stored and out of the reach of rodents
We further explained that the incubation period of this virus was 6 to 21 days and the symptoms include :fever, general weakness, fatigue,headache and sore throat,vomitting,diarrheoa after few days. In some cases the virus affects the kidney,spleen and liver very badly. The villagers listened with keen interest and asked questions
A man asked a question ' whether it was unsafe to eat bushmeat?' Saying he couldn't do without it, he was informed he should stay off bushmeats from the rodents family that there were other bushmeats e.g antelope
They expressed joy to have us there,though we had language barrier at first but fortunately one of us understand and spoke igbo( a language in nigeria) so he did much of the talking
There is no case of lassa fever yet in enugu state but there was a case reported in the nearby state (Imo state),so feeding the masses with vital information is one of the best option we have and we did and we'll keep doing that
