Many a times, you like to hear things that makes you happy and smile, and feel good about yourself and your future. Normally, this is a good thing - assuming that there's element of truth to it. But in a situation where you'll rather believe a beautiful lie that fuels your ego over a painful truth, that's not good.

Some times, you know that you're not putting in your best hand into something. Perhaps, it's your business or a project that you're part of or responsible for. When you already know that you're not giving even up to 60% of your potential to it, why will you to happy if someone tells you that you're doing okay.

It's been a long standing problem with most businessmen - they don't want to listen to the painful truths that will help them move their business forward. There are business owners who fire a staff that tells them that the business could be much better, and that the present state of the business isn't good.

Sometimes, such an employee may have other creative thoughts on how to improve the business, but some business owners don't want to listen to anything aside from the initial idea that they have. As a result, they'll prefer a worker who flatters them and tells them beautiful lies, they want to hear.

Even in personal relationships - most people will rather be around people that won't challenge them to do better and be better. They'll make statements like - they don't want to be judged or analyzed by anyone. Hence, they move around with people who tell them beautiful lies that won't bring progress into their lives over someone who will tell them the painful truths that bring about positive changes and progress.
