The Intuition Series - Episode 1: Forest Therapy

Two days ago I left civilization - including my new pal Steemit - for a complete 24 hour immersion in nature for a new video that will be a part of my latest project, The Intuition Series. My guide was shinrin-yoku practitioner and forest therapy guide David Kendall.

So what in the earth is "forest therapy" and why do we need to learn it from a guide?

Forest Therapy is walking in forests or other natural places, but differs from a typical hike, as you walk the woods in a very intentional and aware manner. A guide teaches you how to open your senses up and observe, and ultimately trains you to be able to do it on your own.

I heard about this practice several months ago and wanted to get the full on experience. I found David via a local article and on Tuesday, headed up to Kana'Ti Lodge, seriously one of the most attractive, eco-friendly, sustainable structures I've seen. The lodge is located right near Hot Springs, NC and directly next to Max Patch Mountain and the Appalachian Trail. David has a background as a landscape architect and designed the lodge, which he runs with his wife Jeannette.

This was my first experience really grounding down and absorbing my environment. I spend quite a bit of time editing behind the computer and when I take hikes it is often more about the view or the waterfall waiting at the end. With David as my guide, I was really able to open up my senses to not only see, but hear, smell and even taste the forest as we found blueberries and other edible plants. Even with my partner Bryan rolling the camera, the experience changed me and I left feeling more relaxed, super creative, and actually energetic, even after the long drive home through windy roads- a huge difference from the complete exhaustion and crash I experience from a typical hiking trip!

We are so socialized to believe we are separate from nature, but in reality, we are a part of it, as it is a part of us. Being able to grasp that connection is revitalizing and encourages us to be stewards to give back to the forest and the entire planet.

The full video is coming soon and will include tips so you can learn how to approach your next walk in the woods for maximum health and psychological benefits. Stay tuned and drop a comment if you are looking forward to seeing the full video on forest therapy or have had personal experiences with the practice. The full series will focus on a number of different individuals who are each uniquely cultivating their intuition and helping others connect with their sixth sense and inner knowing. I find nature so healing and am always grateful for all it offers.

Yes! It is a beautiful thing and glad to be finding that appreciation more and more each day!

Hi Jenny, great idea, I look forward to the first episode, success!

thank you alex!!! that means a lot : )

This is beautiful. To be in one with nature, to return to it is what the humans need right now. When we found ourselves missing something, or when we are lost and confused, nature is our safe refuge. Just to feel the present moment, and to stop thinking. Nature has its way of healing us, because we are part of it.

It is so needed. And when we really understand through immersion with it that we are part of nature, our life's purpose takes on new meaning. Suddenly, how can I help and give back to the earth becomes a serious question. This experience is one that is teaching me that.
