Learning is the gradual process by which an individual through his/her own activity becomes changed in his/her behavior.
It is a response to teaching situation where learner is an participant in the process. Thus, effective learning become key to modern world development (to change the whole world better) but there are so many factors which could hindered the effectiveness of the learning to be enhanced called BARRIERS.
The following 5 factors which I suggest to be the main barriers to effective learning to be achieved are described as follows;

1. Attitudinal disposition
2. Fear
3. Hunger
4. Financial barrier
5. Language barrier.

• Attitudinal disposition : Your attitude towards learning could either go with you or go against you (That is, tells you whether you succeed or fail). Some learn because of the pressure exerted on him/her (forced or pushed to learn) while some learn cause s/he sees others doing so.
  Check yourself!!! What perception or motive do you have for learning? Is it to succeed or fail? To be a a knowledgeable personnel or to appear ignorant in the society?
  There is no limit to what you can achieve. Effective learning is designed on a greater depth of good motivation because the road to success is very very rough at initial stage but if you insist to follow the road, nothing but joy end the story as the length to pass on the rough road is not that too far before you reach or see the smoothness of the road. Wake up from sleep, go for your dream and attain greatness!!!

• Fear : Why you scared of asking questions on what you do not know? The answers will always be capital NO.
  Why you afraid of saying your opinion? You will remain stagnant (Not moving forward). We are all prone to make mistakes that is why we are human being. So learn from your mistakes but never regret. Or you are scared of expressing yourself in public? The audience are ghosts, monsters or spirit? What you do not put in practice will never master master you, talent you don't use diminish.
  Don't let your fear deprived you from what you ought to.

So, this is the right time for you to get rid of fear before it gets too late.

• Hunger: Hunger is one of the greatest barriers to effective learning. Nothing could be committed to memory when appetite is not satisfied.
  There is a popular saying that says "An hungry man is an angry man". This means that anybody that is hungry won't concentrate on what is being taught as it affects the functionality of the brain. Food is the first used to keep basic body functions well. As learner become better nourished, they become better able to learn.
• Financial barrier: This is another greatest barrier for effective learning to be achieved. Financial issues like inadequate to learning resources such as buying textbooks, computer, handset etc to get the vital information about this universe may not be enhanced.
  For instance, technology has made it possible to travel to China, America, Russia, Japan and so on to get a diverse information on a particular topic of interest while you remain in your room in Nigeria through handset (browsing) but as a result of financial problem, he/she may not be able to afford it as it a little bit expensive.

• Language barrier: Lastly, lack of communication skills could be of vital important barrier to effective learning. Average Nigerian students find it difficult to communicate to each other with English (official language of Nigeria). They find it difficult to speak other language than his/her own mother tongue.
  In a nutshell, there are more than these five (5) factors that serve as barriers to effective learning but at least the above mentioned points I think are the major barriers to effective learning we are experiencing all over. Thanks
