My daughter's name is Hazel. Can you guess my favourite book and film too?

Yes, Watership Down by Richard Adams. The tale about a band of rabbits who leave their warren in the hunt for a new home, somewhere high and free and all the obstacles they have to overcome. I loved this book since I was 6 when my mum read it to me and as soon I could read, I read it. It taught me that any obstacle can be overcome, gone around, or worked through and I hope I never meet anyone like General Woundwort.

My favourite rabbits in the book were Hazel, Bigwig and Fiver.

I had it in my head If I had a daughter I would call her Hazel, because Hazel was the best of bunch in there, brave courageous and kind. And I didn't get it wrong naming my daughter that :)

The other book that had an impact on me as a child was Roald Dahl's Witches, both the book and film. It gave me nightmares! And I was forever running away from women in the supermarket if they were potential witches, especially if they were wearing shoes with square toes. LOL

I don't have a history with books but surely watch movies a lot. Is there any movie that you particularly love?

Well, I love Watership Down as a book and movie, but if I had to pick a favourite movie it would be The Shawshank Redemption as although fiction, it opened my eyes to how much injustice there is the world and the infinite power of time and hope. I suppose again that is one of the other rare occasions where the film surpasses the book, well short story in this case.

i went through sort of like trailers and just noticed that the film and book reference is made on the movie i recommended below i.e. Donnie Darko. OMG what a coincidence. MIND = BLOWN!

Oh! I absolutely LOVE Watership Down, too! I read it back in high school. I should read it again! I also grew up watching the movie as a child- if I remember right it was on tv fairly often. I saw the movie before I ever read the book. I remember loving all the “rabbit language” words & the storytelling (stories within the story). And I still sometimes get the song from the movie in my head -“Bright Eyes”. Yes- amazing book & movie- I think that story changes you forever. All of my children have seen the movie- many times! A must-see!!!

What an amazing memory you have. I dont remember my mam reading to me but there is no way in the world she did not.
I know i read the book, but dont recall. However you memory has sparked some curiosity and im thinking my 5 year old might enjoy the story
