Malaya & British Borneo banknote history

In 1963 following the merger of Sarawak , British North Borneo and Labuan to Malaya, the Board of Commissioner Currency Malaya was dissolved . A new board was formed, the Board of Commissioner of Currency Malaya and British Borneo. All the currency notes issued by the board were signed by the President of the Board, W.C. Taylor. The obverse side of the note had the potrait of Queen Elizabeth II while the emblems of each state was printed on the reverse. The notes printed were in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 1,000, and 10,000 dollars.

In 1959, a new One Ringgit banknotes were issued with the picture of a fisherman's boat , signature by Tun Lee Hau Shik and had a security stripe together with a shadow of a tiger's head. It was printed by Thomas de la Rue Co. Ltd. , London. In 1961 , a new Ten Ringgit with a farmer plowing the rice field with the signature by Tun Tan Siew Sin was issued. The role of printing was taken over by Bank Negara , Malaysia established in 1963. The Board of Commissioner of Currency Malaya and British Borneo was ordered to stop printing banknotes. In the late 1961, a new design of Ten Ringgit was issued with 2 security stripes.
