Learning about Crypto in Bucharest

in #cryptocurrencies5 years ago

So, remember when I told you last week about going to a book club that sucked? Well, as a result I got a newsletter from the meetup website where I’d signed up and obviously I checked it out. I had and have no interest in going back to the book club, but something else caught my attention.
Something called ‘when will the bear market be over?’ - and you all should know that a Steemian can’t resist a good title like that. We just can’t.

It was a meeting/presentation that took place at the very fancy Bitcoin Romania house in the center of town (in a very expensive area, I might add, so I suppose that’s good news). And obviously, I went, despite the rain and miserable weather. Because crypto is...well, crypto.

Yes, on the way I did realize that it’s not ideal that one of the only things that gets me outta the house is Steemit-related. But let’s ignore that.

I got to the meeting afraid of what the turn-out might be, you know, since the gen pop is so ‘OMG Bitcoin is fake news’ and all that crap, but there were a solid 20 people there. Maybe a bit more. So, that was already pretty encouraging. Not to mention the mega-cool arrow signs they had so that you’d find the attic meet-up spot. Check this out.

Already feeling the FOMO? Move it!...... #HODL! You’re almost there!

I was laughing as I climbed the stairs – aren’t they just super cute? I mean, I know several Steemians who’d get that sort of thing on the walls of their house! I know I would :))

Now, I got there and settled down to read the papers they’d given everyone, which were pretty nice. Written clearly, so that even the non-cryptowise people, such as myself could understand, which of course I was happy with.

As was the presentation itself. It was held by this broker guy, who talked about the bear market and about the initial rise of Bitcoin from 13 dollars to 1000 (2013, I think it was) and about economic crisis and why it’s normal to have ups and downs. It was easy to follow while at the same time being smart, you know? It could hold both people new to crypto as well as long-time investors. And that was good, I suppose. I definitely think I learned things and the guy invited interaction from the audience and it was interesting, listening to some people there, because they had varied points of view and it was informative hearing them explain.

I think listening is a very underrated value, you know? You learn so much, just by sitting quietly and listening to others. And yet, most people don’t want to listen, they just want an audience to what they have to say, which they think is so interesting and the absolute truth. But it’s not. You already know what you’ve got to say, but you don’t know what someone else has to say, do you?
That’s just an aside, back to the presentation.

So, it was very interesting, they touched on various topics, Bitcoin in relation to the other alt-coins, investing, decentralization, a lot. And again, for people like me who even though I’ve been on Steem, I can’t say I’m too crypto-wise, it was good, I learned things. And I like that.

And I like that they’re looking on expanding. After the presentation, they let us interact a bit and I listened to some clever dudes talk about cryptos. I talked a bit, too, telling a few people about Steemit :)) (duh, like any good maniac)

And then, they gave us a tour of the house, which they want to make into a crypto museum. With different sort of rooms, like an Ethereum room and a Bitcoin room and the history of crypto. it’s really cool and while I don’t see exactly how much attention it might grab, I do hope it does and that crypto becomes a more well-known topic among the gen pop. I really and they seem to be trying to build on that.
They were always saying they’re going to have crypto classes with different themes like blockchain and mining as well as more such meet-ups, so overall, they seemed to have a lot of things planned concerning crypto in Romania (at least, in Bucharest), so that’s definitely a good thing.

Yeah, I had fun.

Oh, I also got a recommendation for an apparently really good book on crypto and Bitcoin called 'The Bitcoin Standard' - anyone here read it?

So, cheers for reading,

I'm guessing you didn't meet any other steemians there, but had any of them heard of Steem?

Nope, no Steemians sadly, but the three guys I talked to had all heard of it 😊

Lure all of them here 😈

Patience, my friend. It was only the first meeting, I'm slowly setting the trap :))

Looks like this was more legit than that book club thing you went to... Couldn't have been much worse right? To be honest I was not sure it was 💯 legit until I saw the whiteboard. Once I saw it then I knew it was legit for real. 😆

Just on the listening thing: We have two ears and one mouth, when used in that proportion it's amazing what can happen. Listen more than you talk I guess is my point. People talk too much when they should be listening.

Glad this thing was pretty good and that you learned some stuff.

Anyway, that's about it. 😊😉

Haha I know, I was surprised by the board too. That's when I knew these guys meant business. And I liked the fact they had accurate info on the papers (given that the price of BTC had dropped just the night before, it would've been easy to have them printed like that, but nope).

Yeah, I listen a lot. It's that listening so much that people think you're stupid or don't have stuff to say, but I don't really care.
