Are you gonna rage quit?

I am by no means a big Facebook user. I don’t post regularly, I don’t...I don’t know, whatever it is people do on it. I don’t. But I do scroll it. Or at least, I did.
Last night, I was talking with a friend and she said she was disabling the popular social media app on her phone because she was spending more and more time scrolling it and it was getting to her. And it is draining, isn’t it?
For example, yesterday morning, I woke up early, couldn’t go back to sleep. I spent an hour in bed trying to sleep again, yet couldn’t, so I just lay in bed, looking out the window. Then, after an hour I figured fuck it, there’s no sleep coming, so I got my phone, turned on the Wifi (which I keep switched off during the night) and got scrolling. Well, within 20 minutes, my eyes were falling and I had to put the phone beside the bed and went back to sleep.
The effect of these fucking screens is dangerous. On your eyes as well as on your mental well-being.
So, inspired by my friend, I took the “leap” and disabled Facebook on my phone as well. Why? Because I realized it was becoming a bad habit. It’s a good time-waster, scrolling through Facebook and even the more determined minds (as I like to think of myself) can easily fall into it. It’s 5 minutes, when you’ve got nothing better to do, but those 5 minutes add up and soon, it’s fifty. Or 5 hours. Or God knows how long.
And the thing about FB is...it’s there. It’s so easy to reach for your phone, tap the F icon and let your finger slide. You’re not paying attention, most probably (which is good, ‘cause most of Facebook is shit anyway), but it makes you think you are. Makes you feel connected/informed/whatever. While at the same time, damaging your eyes, tiring you out and idling your brain.
And I thought I wouldn’t get hooked, but I did. Only this morning, I found my thumb was hovering over the spot on the screen where the Facebook icon used to be. Automatically. And then, it took me a second to understand what was wrong.
So yeah, that’s a clear sign a break was needed.
The thing about voluntarily wasting your time on Facebook or other such apps, to me, is directly related to the entitlement that is characteristic of this age and this society. I hate that word, entitlement. So many idiotic, evil little cults and groups use it to justify their disgusting behavior. But it’s the correct word, at least in this situation.
Another term I have trouble with is ‘rage quit’. It’s popular among youngsters, I’ve noticed. Having a rage quit or doing one or whatever. Somehow, it’s justifiable. Like it’s perfectly within your rights to just become fed up with work, life, a stressful situation and act like a complete dick.
And it is technically true. It is your right to become fed up at some point. But I’ve always believed that the correct attitude to have in stressful situations is ‘just a little bit more, I can hold on for just a little while longer’. Now, that doesn’t apply to all situations, obviously, there are many jobs/relationships that are draining and poisonous to you and you should get out of those unashamed.
But most situations aren’t like that. Yeah, your job is stressful, but that’s just part of the job. And the fact is these people who “rage-quit” don’t do it because they are truly, impossibly fed-up. They do it because they can, it’s just a childish form of acting out, drawing attention and basically being a dick.
People today don’t quit because they honestly can’t take it anymore. They quit because they can. And because it makes them seem important. Remember, I wrote a couple of days ago about people who love sounding busy and important? They’re the same people who rage quit.
There’s nothing fucking wrong with their mental state or their capacity to survive under pressure. It’s their little fragile ego that’s just acting out.
Okay, I have no idea how we went from Facebook to these entitled little kiddies, but we did. Anyway, that’s my bit of thoughts for the day.
I deleted FB at the beginning of 2018. Best thing I did! You'll get over any residual need for it over time a d then wonder why you ever bothered with it. Probably anyway.

You're probably right :) Really, it's annoying to have this need to check it for whatever the reason. Good fucking riddance, I say.
Not so much 'rage quit' but I did quit fbook about 6 months ago. I even had to migrate some of my friends on there on to WhatsApp to continue chatting.
They were like "just use fbook messenger." But honestly, I've your on msnger, it's too easy to start scrolling, then an hour later you think where did the time go. I often get the same level of time loss on steem using partiko, but at least I'm involved in something that brings myself and others value. Lol and mostly end up reading things of quality.
Facebook is gone from my life and unlikely to return. I'd rather read a book or listen to a good song 🙂

Haha love this. All these people sharing with me how you all quit Facebook. I love that. It's a good movement. I've kept Messenger, I use it to chat to a few people, but on the app, there's no getting on Facebook, so no temptation to scroll (at least I think not), so I should be safe.
I agree about using Partiko in much the same way, I do, too. I guess habits die hard :D But like you say, it's much more useful, there's quality content and quality engagement, which isn't really the case with FB.
amen.
FB clean since 2014..

Good on you ;) I see more and more people quit FB. I kept it up because I found a lot of inspiration for Steem posts (rants, true, but still...), but I figure it ain't worth it anymore.
Well, it's people's choice to rage quit, but I still use facebook like once every week and i haven't thought about quitting yet. Sure, they're not exactly great at supporting content creators on there and i found most of the contents on there useless to me, but we've gotta give them the credit, they've got an almost perfect attention-mining machine going. It only takes a few minutes on facebook to postpone real life work. Lol. I cannot wait for a blockchain-powered social media that gives back to the community to achieve that status.
I get it. I haven't gone off Facebook per se, but with it not on my phone, I'd have to take the time to go on my laptop to check it, which is something I haven't done in forever, so the use will be greatly reduced.
Yes, they deserve some credit because it takes a lot of intelligence and skill to control people in quite this way. (as much as people let themselves be controlled, that is)
I've been told I'm a very pragmatic individual and I try my best to use my time wisely. But I allowed myself "little" time-wasters such as a quick FB scroll every now and then as a sort of treat. I do use my time productively, so I figured if I need 5 mins of staring at stupid shit on social media, I can afford it. It wasn't a major problem for me, like it was for the friend I mentioned. But I don't know, I figured I was ready to take the next step and get rid even of those 5 mins. :)
Me too, i do think that is the way forward, at least for the blockchain itself. But I do think quality will suffer when this crypto world moves on and becomes more accessible, you know? That's why FB is so popular, it doesn't take a lot of effort and creativity. Which is what the greater population will require if the blockchain is ever to go mainstream.
I totally agree with you and that is fine. People should be allowed the freedom to post whatever they wish. Every platform that went mainstream at some point allowed this. I don't think the effect will be felt though. It cannot get worse than facebook and with communties, chat groups and publication groups for (bloggers), quality can be preserved.
I guess i don't use facebook that much because its not even installed on my phone. LOL. Such a time grab!
Cheers, Honey!
Yeah, throw that FB away, burn it with fire and bury it underground before it drags you along there :D
Haha yes, I am. Finally. Wasn't a huge timewaster before, but now I want to waste even less time, you know? Every second counts and all that...;)
I do use FB quite a lot, but not in the way most people do.
I deleted my friends list so I have no friends!
The point behind this is that I like a lot of the groups and pages. Communities as we on Steemit might call them!
Now, I can follow what interests me without the clutter of people I dont care about telling me stuff I dont care about and my real friends I talk to on Skype.
I love FB now :-)

That's good thinking. I wasn't following most of my FB "friends" and I can't say they were getting terribly annoying or anything. It was good, let me see what the gen pop was thinking, it's good to know how your peers react to the world around.
Anyway, yeah, I'm sure that's one of the few good things about it, the communities. I wasn't a big fan of any of my communities. The only online community I like is this one, right here on Steem.
Good on you :) It wasn't a rant on FB per se, more like me ranting about myself, because I hate seeing this compulsion to scroll through the bullshit that was my feed. ;)
Now I can scroll endlessly down my feed, check the price of Steem 100s of times a day and rage about trending lol ;-)
I can relate to this. Here i am scrolling and enjoying the read and tell myself how reading through my steem it feed gives me so much more value.
