Why Is The Red Cross Trashing Your Donations?

Photos of donation items that the Red Cross discarded included pillows, chairs, board games, educational materials, books, sleeping bags and more. Police were also seen guarding the trash cans to prevent looting.

The woman who took these photos wrote the following:

"It's aggravating to see all the donations Red Cross threw away. This shows only a small bit of it - but there were pillows, stuffed animals, clothes, blankets, books, cooking pots and pans... So much of that could have been used, if not by those affected by Harvey, by women's or homeless shelters, libraries, schools, etc... such a waste. I thought about getting the 100 or so kids' books out (it pains me to see good books in the trash), but the po-po were out in force, protecting the trash cans from looters. I wish I was kidding.

Between this and the stories about RC staff, eating in front of people who had been on a roof since Wednesday, while telling them the food was 'for volunteers only.' And the way they talked to people (smh)... at one point, they warned the parents to keep an eye on their children by announcing that CPS was on the floor and would be taking any children not standing with their parents (Wtf?). They even turned away people who came in costumes to entertain the children, and those who had ordered pizzas for everyone. They discouraged and discounted local support at nearly every turn.

Makes me nauseous 😡 ... Good thing I saw so many good local people, all through grassroots efforts, taking up the slack though."
