How your bite force compares to other animals

If someone bites you, it really hurts, doesn't it? But you'll be surprised to know that some animals have a bite which is more than 10 times more powerful than human's, as can be seen from the following figure.

What is surprising is that even Gorillas, which resemble humans quite a lot, have a bite almost 10 times more powerful than human's. According to [1], the reason for their such powerful bite is because of the need to grind tough food like bark and roots, and also to scare off external threats.

Another surprising thing here is that a Tiger's bite is almost twice as powerful as Lion's. This is because Tigers are solitary animals that hunt alone, while Lions are social animals that hunt in groups. Even more surprising is the fact that a Heyna's bite is even more powerful than that of Tiger's. This powerful bite helps Heynas to hunt large preys like Zebras, despite their relatively smaller size.

And of course the most powerful bite belongs to Crocodile, which can take down large preys like Water Buffalos, with its extremely powerful bite.
