162 illegally-transported Chinese horseshoe crabs found

Armed police in Guangxi Province seized 162 iced Chinese horseshoe crabs during a routine inspection on a van last Wednesday.

The Chinese horseshoe crabs (tachypleus tridentatus) belong to China’s second-class protected animal species and are forbidden from being illegally hunted, purchased or carried by any person or company.

Since the van driver could not provide any legal shipping permit for Chinese horseshoe crabs, the armed police had impounded his cargo and turned it to the fishing administrative authority .
