Putting an end to all junk emails!
So EU is passing a new privacy law this friday, called GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). After the 2 year period that had been given for companies, that store personal data of their users, to comply. Now users will have more control over their personal data without companies being able to share them to 3rd parties.
That will effect pretty much every company, that handles sensitive data of european citizens, not just social media platforms like some may think, such as Facebook and Instagram etc. Now other businesses like insurance and banks will also have to comply with this law. For example several non European news sites will closed down on Friday. If they don't, then they will have to face huge fines ranging from 20 million up to 4% of the previous years revenue. Whichever is higher.
Until now buissneses shared bits of our personal data and it's the reason why our emails is full of junk, unwanted emails.
It was about time something was done to handle these situations. Moreover it is a bit sad that a huge scandal must take place (Facebook - Cambridge Analytica scandal in April) in order to establish rules that protect sensitive information about people. Now we will have more control over our data and transparency on how and to who the information is shared.
I guess we learn from our mistakes and this is a step in the right direction, only time will tell.
