Cars in History - Today in 1959 the Mini makes its debut
A major day for the automotive industry in England
On August 26, 1959 the famous Mini makes its debut. It was launched by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and was a reaction to the oil crisis in that period - a new car that was small, affordable and became later a status symbol, very popular amongst women and was one of the best-selling British cars in history.
Back in 2000 a panel of global journalists even voted the Mini to be “European Car of the Century.” Only three years the Mini Cooper got a new look & feel (some call it design) for a new buyer generation by the German BMW.
