Let’s assume you are a person from middle class. You have a flight at 7 AM to attend your cousins’s marriage is in the evening. You generally don’t wake up before pressing alarm snooze button twice around 8 AM everyday. But for catching the flight you packed your luggage the day before, woke up at 4:30 AM when alarm rang for the first time. It was difficult but you somehow managed it and finally successfully boarded the flight.

Let’s think about it a bit. You have missed numerous trains, buses, office shuttle while going to work. It’s very rare that you have actually reached office before time. But what happened today?
->If you miss the flight you have to book it on the spot. You can only catch next flight in the evening at 6 PM.
->On spot flight booking price is 3 times the amount you paid few days back. Let’s not forget you are a middle class person.
->You can’t think of missing your cousin’s marriage anyway. Not an option for you.
The stake is high here. The reason is very strong. Why you must catch this flight on time is clear. This is very important while setting the goal.
In a very simple way Success is achieving something big that we value. So why many people are not able to achieve big in their life? What are the most important factors to achieve big in life?
Probably most of us are misguided about success. In most of the educational institutions teachers teach us all theoretical way to achieve success. Truth is most of the teachers belong to lower middle class or middle class and they belong to average category. They have not experienced real success. If you are studying in a reputed school or college then you might get chance to listen to real successful people few times in a year.
There could be hundreds of factors available but i find these 3 factors are primary or root factors.
->Passion in doing something(Love).
->Clear Direction (Goals)
->Self Discipline(Habit)
->Passion or Love:
“Imagine someone would have forced Sachin Tendulkar to sing and Lata Mangeshkar to play cricket, where would they have been today ?”- Rancho in 3 Idiots.
You can’t decide you will work hard on acting because you see fans worship Amithabh Bachan or Rajanikant. You can’t decide to take up Tennis just because you are a great admirer of Federer. You can’t just decide to do something because that has brought fame, money and success to people you admire.
Do the things you love, you enjoy and you are good at. Absolutely nothing great can be achieved without love of doing it.
“You’ve got to find what you love,” Jobs said. “The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it.”
Most people find it very hard going to gym because they don’t love it (at least initially). They pay the money in advance but still don’t go to gym. Well whenever it is about table tennis or badminton, we just love to go.

Clear Direction (Goals):
Now say you have found what you enjoy doing, what you are passionate about doing.
When setting the goal you must have a strong reason or burning desire to achieve that. You must be very clear why is this important for you. Just saw the flight story, right.
Now you must set clear goal what you want to become or achieve. You must define your goal for a year, for a month. You must define what you want to do in a single day. But this falls most appropriately under third point, we will discuss later.
No matter how much you work if you don’t define clear path you may be moving round and round not succeed in achieve big goals in your life.
Self Discipline or Habit:
You like waking up usually late in the morning , flipping channels on TV, scrolling Facebook pages. You have been doing it for few years so it has become a habit, part of your life.
Finding passion is difficult task but when people find it then it becomes easier to set clear goals which is easiest of all. Problem is most people don’t succeed in achieving their 5 years, 10 years, 20 years goal because their motivation fade away after few days or few months, they procrastinate and they can’t just come out of their comfort zone habits, they loose excitement.
The number one reason for lack motivation is lack of clear daily goals or targets. Practically it is not possible to set daily goals and work towards achieving that. Here we need habit or routine. Initial period need more self discipline but once a habit is formed it will stay here.
As renowned psychologists have found out for forming habit it needs to follow
->Recognition (Trigger)
->Reward
->Repeat
->cycle for some days(Some say it is 66 days).
Two common ways to be more self disciplined is
Create a practical weekly plan. Follow daily routine to achieve weekly target. This could be boring but daily routine is the most important thing in achieving goals.
Don’t think much just take important work and start doing. If something can be done now, do it now, if something can be done today do it today. Probably this is the best way to attack procrastination.
Once you find your love, you set the goals and follow a daily routine then that is most effective you to achieve big things that we call success in life.
