My 2017: Welcoming this new year in good spirit

The 31st of December of every year is usually the day I stay awake till the break of the day. This day has a special feeling in my life, on the 31st December of 2017, I was very anxious, and I was expectant more than the watchmen wait for day break.

The day was filled with plenty of activities, I began the day with a routine clean up that is being done in my house every last day of the year, I was brought up to believe that we can not allow dirty dishes and clothes to crossover to next year, to that effect, we do a thorough clean up that extends even to the fence.

After the clean up, I gathered all unwanted materials and set them ablaze, some items that are still in good conditions, I gave out to the less privileged.

When it was noon, when I had finished cleaning up the whole place along with my brother, we start loading the fridge with drinks and waited patiently for those in the "kitchen department" to complete their bakings and frying.

When it was evening I started calling my friends to tease them about New year, I would call a friend and simply tell the person that I have called to hear from you before the year ends and we laugh about it.

On the eve of new year, I received lots of New year related messages that made became very anxious to see the new year. I didn't know this day too will pass away because it became slower as I waited in anxiety.

When it was 10pm I went for a crossover night in holy Ghost Cathedral Enugu, Nigeria (Catholic Church), the Mass lasted than usual, but I enjoyed it, everybody enjoyed it as it was like a night of breakthroughs, the priest rained down blessings as it clocked 12am and that was how I was ushered into the year 2018 in a mood of prayer and hapoiness.

My life experience in the year 2017 was averagely good and commendable, and I think the year 2018 would be better, I winded up 2017 with joy and happiness and I was ushered into the new year with a good spirit.
